Elsie
I have POTS/NCS and am moving to Atlanta, GA next month...which unfortunately means having to find a new team of doctors! Does anyone have a recommendation for a good cardiologist and/or neurologist in the area??
Rachel
There are two electrophysiologists at the Cardiac Disease Specialists in Atlanta. Dr. Dan Dan (yes, same first name and last name, not a typo!) and Dr. Thomas Deering both treat POTS patients. Here's the website for Cardiac Disease Specialists: http://www.cdspc.comI have been to Dr. Deering, but not to Dr. Dan. I've only seen Dr. Deering once because after one visit we realized that I'd already tried everything he can do. He told me to go to Dr. Grubb. (Do not pass go, do not collect $200!) But if you have a "regular" case then these guys can treat you. Or if you just need meds managed and prescriptions written by someone who understands POTS, then they can definitely do that. Also, they're familiar with the process of getting people into Vanderbilt, so if that is your route then these docs can help with it. I haven't been to a neurologist in the area, so I don't know about that. But I have a wonderful pcp and sleep specialist, so if you need recommendations for those, let me know. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask or send me a pm. I hope you can find an excellent team of doctors.Rachel
gtg287y
If anybody knows anything more about doctors in Atlanta, I'd be grateful to find out, too.-Jenny
firewatcher
Like any major city, it depends on which side you live on. Cardiac Disease Specialists is now a part of Piedmont Hospital's Heart Institute with doctors all over the metro Atlanta area, but not all know about POTS, so stick with the ones Rachel recommended. They also have a fantastic sleep specialist from that group in Marietta; he now knows more about POTS than he ever wanted to know! On the South side, I can recommend a good Primary Physician and a neurologist. I can also recommend two endocrinologists, one down South and one at Emory...I don't know which one is correct, but they both know POTS now. PM me if you want their names. Rachel
My original post in this topic is from two years ago. I need to now clarify and add that in the past few months I've heard some very conflicting reviews of the Cardiac Disease Specialists. Some patients have said that the doctors know about POTS and are willing to treat it. Others have said that they didn't receive any help with treatment. I haven't been in a very long time, so I don't know what it is like there at CDS anymore. Everyone I've heard from says something totally different than the person before. It may be a great experience, a bad experience, or somewhere in between.Rachel

Adrienne Mallett
My daughter had Dysautonomia and has moved to Atlanta from the DC area where we saw Dr Abdallah for 6 years who specializes in it. We need her to have a dr down in Atlanta so she can manage her meds and condition. Anyone have any ideas?
Dawn B
Hi there, my family just moved from Kansas City, MO this year to the northern suburbs of Atlanta, GA. I have a 19 year old daughter with POTS/dysautonomia and need to get her involved with a new team. We were preparing to transition from Children's Mercy and pediatric care for college and now are at a loss as we have no connections here. Can anyone help??? I think I have heard of Dr. Deering and her pediatrician thought she should do a sleep study. She is so fatigued that I think her sleep is definitely a problem as is low ferritin. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!!
firewatcher
I have seen a sleep specialist (Dr. Scott Liebowitz -- Laureate Medical Group) for years. He has been my strongest supporter and understands POTS better than most doctors I've ever seen. He is NOT a POTS specialist, but a sleep specialist and a fantastic person. Dr. Howard Snapper (cardiology) in Woodstock has many recommendations, but I have never seen him. I go to Vanderbilt for my POTS doctor, but have also heard good things about University of Alabama in Birmingham. You would think that a large city like Atlanta would have a specialist, but I have yet to find one after living here for 20 years and having POTS for 14. If you find someone, please let us all know!
