One med helping but I can't afford it

I know you guys will understand and I apologize up-front for complaining. I know things could be worse however, that still doesn't take away my frustration.

I've been having severe muscle spasms and pain. my local Dr's have ruled out all they can think of; I emailed one of the top autonomic facilities and have had no reply from them to date. I saw another specialist this week who gave me some samples. They are helping to take the edge off the pain but not helping enough. It is a patch which I like because that way it's not messing up my whole body. Tonight I called to see how much it would cost to have the prescription filled. For a supply that would barely last me a month I was quoted anywhere between $399.00 - 345.00. (the cheaper being Costco).

I have no prescription coverage at this point (another long story about medicare and the fact that because most of my meds are compounded which is the only way I've been able to get doses low enough my body will tolerate but yet still get some relief--medicare will not pay for my compounded meds). I make 'to much" money to qualify for any assistance yet I can't afford the coverage either. To many of you this may make no sense....to those who are stuck in the System you will probably be able to identify.

My Dr did give me some samples but they aren't able to give me enough on a regular basis.

At the moment I feel at my witts end. I'm TIRED and WEARY. I'm frustrated by not having my local Dr's really fight for me--I do so much of the work for them when I don't feel well to begin with and I can't even get them to read a short article I bring or to make a phone call on behalf when my efforts have been futile; I'm frustrated by the fact that the larger facilities offer the advice to have a local Dr coordinate care when the reality is I've searched this big city for 2 1/2 yrs and have yet to find a dr willing to do this and the few times I ask for help from these larger places that know more of what they are doing I either never get a response or have to really fight to get a response ( I do understand their position as well but as the patient being the one suffering here it's no less frustrating to me). Then to find a med that helps slightly was such a nice relief and now I learn I can't afford it.

I'm just in that mode right this second of "Nobody else in this world cares so why should I?" I know this feeling will pass but I just wish I could give up

Thanks for listening!

I'm so sorry Pooh! The system really is very bad, and the stupid thing is, if they did cover stuff, it would cost them less in the long run!

I wish I knew what to tell you. My son is on these new shots. He will get two a month and they are 800 dollars per shot! We have to fight every year to keep him on insurance, because his meds cost thousands per month. If they drop him, he will become non functional. We can't afford those kind of bills, let alone appts and stuff. So every year we have to reapply, then pray like crazy.

It makes me so angry, to have to fight for everything. Who has that kind of strength? If we did, we wouldn't be here.

Maybe your doctor can come up with a derivative that's not as expensive. Big hugs, cause that's all I can do for you. :D morgan

I don't know the specifics but i think if you go thru your dr and pharma co they have some programs for folks who can't have coverage. I'm sure there is a big demand but maybe its worth a try.

my ins co filled my presc today, but told pharmacy it wasn't covered (although Ive been on it for 2 yrs and they've paid. I asked the pharm to run it again (its sad when the pharmacy knows you by your first name) and after arguing it turns out low and behold they paid. They are just constantly testing , the ins co, to see what they can get away with once and then say they don't have to pay.

I hope you can get some kind of relief.
