Well I am back from MCO, oops I guess it is now called the Medical University of Ohio. I had my appt. with Bev. This is my second time seeing her and I must say, she really impresses me and is very thorough. Anyway, I am home and have a whole stack of prescriptions and orders.

My new drug regimen will be:

Cerefolin-for cognitive impairment

Ramelteon-for sleep issues

Mestinon-continue

Florinef-continue

Celexa-depression

Baby Aspirin-continue

Actonel-continue for ostopenia

Calcium-continue

Potassium-continue

Protonix-continue

Multi vitamin-continue

I also have to have the following tests run

Chest Xray-for breathing difficulties

Repeat Head MRI-arteriosclerosis and follow up for earlier possible aneurysm

Bloodwork-lipid levels/liver enzymes/TSH/CRP

Cranio Cervical Massage-for the pulsing feeling I have been having in neck and head

Stress Test and it looks like it says "Myoview? underneath it

Bilateral Knee Xrays-to check for osteoarthritis

Rheumatology workup dependent upon the knee xrays

Now to see how much of this I can get done before the end of the year since I have met all of my out of pocket already.

Glad it went well for you

Question??? how do you get all those tests scheduled? is the rx from MUO enough or do you need a local dr too??? asking because I will face the same quite soon.

And also does Bev check on the interactions between all those meds??? again due to my own future situation. Just want to be prepared ...with the local specialists I always have to do the research along with my pharmacist...and invariably the rx has to change!

good luck trying to schedule it all in next 11 days what with everyone off on vacation!!! Im trying desperately to get my kid in for tests for same reason-- new year deductibles, and having zero luck...all overbooked and understaffed....sigh hope you have better luck than I am!!!

Bev wrote prescriptions for all of the tests that she wants run. Hopefully that will be all I need. If not, I will take the prescriptions to my local family doc and let him call and order the tests. Luckily, I don't need prauthorization with my health insurance company.

As Bev was prescribing the meds she was looking at the details of each at some medical website. I had a severe reaction in the past to Wellbutrin so she was being very careful to avoid similar meds. Before I start taking any new meds I always check for interactions and also ask the pharmacist about it.

hi lisa -

i'm glad you felt so good about your appointment. sounds like it was very thorough & productive. i've seen bev & agree that - as ernie said - she's light years ahead of many of the docs. dr. grubb just knows me so well (almost ten years) that anyone new is at a disadvantage in really "knowing" me and what has been tried already, etc....but she's definitely a good addition to his team.

i hope you're able to get as much scheduled as soon as possible and that the outcomes are useful. and that the new meds go well too.

p.s. i originally thought i'd be in toledo already by now (at my parents for Christmas) & had hoped to be able to stop by & meet you yesterday, but am still in cleveland dealing with medical fun of my own here. maybe next time:-)

i've never had a problem with docs ordering tests and having them done elsewhere...

and while bev has never given me new meds without dr. grubb coming in afterward to discuss/review/alter, he's always been thorough in terms of checking interactions & the like. but has also been honest with me when he's not as familiar with other meds i'm on aside from what he can read in the PDR. and recently when he put me on the Mestinon XR he wasn't aware of the potential issues with it in terms of GI motility (or lack there of). on the other hand he did agree with me that a med my urologist wanted me to try that i was worried about was a BAD idea. ultimately i don't think any doc - no matter how good or thorough - can care as much about med issues/interactions as we must be ourselves. not to take them off the hook....just to say that i always look into it thoroughly myself before taking anything new.

Lisa,

Chrissy and I were there yesterday also. I'm so sorry we missed you. Our appt. with Bev was at 3:00, but I think it was after 4:00 before we actually saw her. She's such a sweetheart. Our next visit is in 6 months, but when we left Sherry had already gone home so I don't have a date yet. Next visit will be with Dr. Grubb, we'll see how the new meds work for Chrissy. Hope your new meds work for you too.

Patti

can't say i know my plans for september yet (i wish!) but we'll cross paths one of these days. my EMG wasn't fun but wasn't the worst thing i've had done either. i posted a bit more on my original EMG post further down the page.
