Crashing Headaches

Recommended Posts

Like many here I get the crashing headache, immense pain in the occipital bones down the neck and through the temple and back of the eyes. These tend to last for a few days whatever pain killers I take co codomol usually , I even have taken ibuprofen which is contraindicated to the florinef

Just wondered if others have found anything that helps?

Many thanks

The Dr only prescribed cocodermol and no not seen a specialist about it. They are not like my normal migraine where I have to go to bed with these I don't get nausea and though lights bother me with these headaches it doesn't affect me like the migraine does

I do not get headaches like these, but do you know if aspirine can be taken safely with florinef? I believe ibrofen has the ability to increase your bp further, I just personally fine aspirin to be the only non-prescription medication that helps my headaches of any kind. Typically I get the classic migraines.

Dancer - What you describe sounds similar to some of my migraines. I also get another variant of migraine. But if you don't think it is a migraine, I would encourage you to see a headache specialist. They would be able to identify what type of headache this is and what the treatment options are.

statesof - It's interesting to me that aspirin helps your migraine. I find that aspirin is the only thing that helps mine although if I add in a triptan with the aspirin it is most effective. I was sent to a hematologist for this and it turns out I do have a gene mutation that makes me a clot risk. They theorize that some people with clotting issues, throw micro-clots that get to their brains and cause migraines. That would explain why aspirin helps me. Unfortunately, they also found through the hematology work up, that I have a rare form of von Wildebrand's Disease which is a bleeding disorder. So, I have to use the aspirin only when I can't stand the pain of the migraine, so as not to exacerbate the bleeding.

Thank you both for your suggestions and advice. I think I will try the asprin and see what happens . These headaches last at least three days

Katy these kind of headaches only started since I crashed 18months ago so maybe they are a kind of migraine I certainly don't function with them (not that I fully function anymore lol) I think I will discuss this when I go to see my POTS Dr in two weeks , my first consultation with a specialist since this all started . I am sorry you have the gene mutation but I found it very intersting that aspirin helps, my Nan died of an anuryrhysim (sorry can't spell ! ) and my uncle has had two one in his brain and one in his lung and was fortunate to survive due to him being a Dr and in the hospital at the time. He really wanted me to be tested but they really don't do that here in the UK he lives in the US.

Again thank you both I

Dancer,

There were multiple things that they tested in the way of clotting disorders but they were all straightforward blood tests...even the gene tests. The von Wildebrand's test was a much more complicated blood test but that wasn't part of the original workup and wouldn't generally be part of the clotting testing. If you want a list of the tests run for clotting disorders let me know.

Thank you Katy, I think this is something I will pay for in the near future I would be grateful for the lists of tests however no hurry as I am working very low hours at the moment so will have to save again just paid for my forthcoming trip to London to see pots Dr !

Again thank you for taking the time to help me, the members here have offered me more advise than the medical profession this site has kept me sane !
