Alma
I had a really hard time standing today, but my hr is no worse than usual (around 135 standing, 90 sitting, 68 lying down). So I took my blood pressure lying down (84 over 53) and then standing (96 over 82). The standing numbers are actually more normal, so why do I feel so bad? Can it be because there is not enough difference between the diastolic and systolic numbers? I have heard of high and low blood pressure, but is there any such thing as blood pressure with numbers too close together? I have noticed before that on my worst days, the numbers seem to be closer than about 15 or 20 units together, but not necessarily too low. For example, sometimes I am 80 over 50, but I feel better at that than I do at 80 over 60. Does that make sense?I don't want to bring it up to my dr if he's just going to brush it off. I like to be selective in what I say, so that he takes me seriously.
plaster89
It is something called pulse pressure which is actually the difference between systolic and diastolic numbers. But your blood pressure seems to be low anyway, especially the systolic number. You can read more about it here -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse_pressure
Katybug
Low pulse pressures cause cerebral perfusion and can cause dizziness, cognitive, issues...really most of the symptoms that POTS causes. It is not normal and should be checked out by a doctor.
angelloz
I get this too, and like you feel terrible when the pulse pressure is low. I lie down when this happens and drink plenty of fluids . I can't remember if I have discussed it with my doctor. I will try to remember to next time. Like you I don't want to go into too many complaints at once...they sort of statrt to brush me off.

I like to be selective in what I say, so that he takes me seriously.I get this sometimes too Alma. It alarms me but I usually change positions and/or activities and the numbers (S/D) become further apart. I know what you mean about going to the doctor with too many issues or questions. I feel like I have to keep the doctor "focussed" on one or two things per visit or they get off track and I'm certain to get another misdiagnosis or "brushed off" or steered in the wrong direction again.Frustrating, but par for the course thus far. I am seeing a EP cardio I found rec. on dinet. hoping....
plaster89
I have the opposite problem. My values are pretty far apart. I just measured it and got 128 over 62 so the pulse pressure is 66 while the average is 40. I do not know why it happen but honestly I do not lay down much and despite symptoms try to keep myself busy with something and walk every day. I have this since many years. Ksheo
Did you ever get to the root of this? Thank you
Mslucimills
I'm just curious my blood pressure has been high even on bystolic. Here latley my numbers are close together, example 140/128. Just curious if this means anything....
Pistol
@Mslucimills - welcome to the forum! I was on Bystolic once and it did not help my high BP. It did not even help for the tachycardia that much ( neither did Metoprolol ). Carvelidol ( nonselective beta blocker ) and Diltiazem ( calcium channel blocker ) helped me much, much more. But we are all different. Generally speaking - medication effectiveness is highly individual in POTS, so no ONE type of med works for all of us, even if we have the same symptoms. My docs and my autonomic specialist usually either up the dose ( if possible ) or switch to another medication if one does not seem to help.
