galatea Posted April 4, 2014 Report Share Posted April 4, 2014 On separate occasions I asked two POTS neurologists/specialists if I recovered would it be risky to have children in case I got ill again since many people get pots after having children. Both of them said that no, and that for many it’s actually a cure! (but that I shouldn’t get pregnant for this to happen).Can’t help feeling slightly sceptical about this…Thoughts anyone? JuneFlower Posted April 4, 2014 Report Share Posted April 4, 2014 well theoretically it could make some sense. At the end of the pregnancy, your blood volume doubles. This could improve some pp.'s POTS symptoms temporarily until your body gets back to normal. micheller Posted April 4, 2014 Report Share Posted April 4, 2014 My pots started when I got pregnant. I felt awful, bedridden, unable to eat or drink, just horrible. It took about 3 1/2 years before I seen any kind of improvement. I'm definitely not back to pre pots but I remember begged my gyno to take my daughter early because I felt so bad. Aimes Posted April 5, 2014 Report Share Posted April 5, 2014 I've had two babies while being diagnosed with POTS and it wasn't a cure for me. I felt terrible during the pregnancies and felt amazing after! I literally felt the best I've ever felt in my life (I still had POTS, but it was much milder). Unfortunately, shortly after my 2nd baby I had to have my gallbladder removed. That surgery sent my body into a downward spiral! I wish we could all be the same so we could know for sure how a pregnancy would affect us. Just make sure you have good doctors you can talk to a lot! Yes, from what I’ve read pregnancy helps some and not others, and some people feel better after giving birth but not all. I was just surprised that both of them said that it could work as a trigger for getting better completely, I’ve never read anything like that before.
