What Kind Of Dr Treats This?

I was told in 2008 that my bp rises with movement from a cardiologist and was put on BP meds. The older I get, so many different things have been going on with on with me that my every day life is getting effected. I don't go out, can't walk without my heart pounding and extreme sweating, hate heat LOVE cold, tremors, bowel problems, anxiety/fight or flight, hypothyroid and much more. 2 weeks, a visiting P.A. at my Dr office said I have Autonomic Dysfunction and to "Google it"! So I did, I found this site which is AMAZING to say the least. I no longer feel crazy or alone and want a REAL doctor that will take this seriously and can help me. I went Google Drs who handle Autonomic Dysfunction and I'm getting psychiatrists, Neurologist, Surgeons, Cardio.. Can someone give me some advice as to where to start first?

There are a few types of docs that specialize....some are neurologists, cadiologists, electrophysiologists. There is a link on the main dinet.org home page to a list of doctors by state that may help you find a doc in your area. If you don't see anything there and are comfortable sharing generally where you live, I suggest starting a thread with a title like "Help finding doctor in (your city)". Autonomic dysfunction is a subspecialtyand you will need to find a doc that has specific knowledge of it as it is a rare syndrome.

Hi Darlene, welcome to the forum! I think a neuro and/or cardio can be of help. Have you checked our physician's list? Not sure where you are located but you might find a good doctor there! I have a cardio, neuro and gp working with me. The neuro is the specialist but my gp who never heard of dysautonomia before has learned a LOT over the years. I feel pretty safe having them as my medical team.

Darlene,

here is a direct link to dinet's list of physicians

http://www.dinet.org/physicians.htm

I am personally working with a team of doctors including 2 internal medicine specialists and 2 neurologists (working on getting an appointment to see neuro # 3) but I've seen several cardiologists as well as an endocrinologist and a psychiatrist ever since I got sick. I'm not even including my GP to this list as she is really overwhelmed by this entire situation, but she's quite helpful, well, most of the time anyways.

As Katie suggested above, perhaps you can start a new thread here asking for assistance in finding an autonomic specialist in your area.

Best,

Alex

Thank you all so very much. I am actually have a really hard time with this, knowing that my previous Drs knew this but did nothing. I had one actually say "I am baffled. I don't know what the **** is wrong with you." Rather than explain what's going on, I never would have put this all together on my own.
I will definitely check out the list and I have no luck, I will start a new thread. Again, thank you all for your help.

Welcome Darlene - hope you find the team of doctors that will work best for you. I am currently under the care of an internal medicine MD, a neurologist, a cardiologist, a vascular surgeon, and an infectious disease specialist. I also see a pathologist and at least 2 nurses with the apheresis team. I have been blessed to have a great medical team. It makes all the difference to have medical specialists that I trust, literally with my life!
