Gemma
Hello everyone. This question is mostly for women. I really want to get pregnant. I am 31 and no kids yet. I had a miscariage a year and a half ago and we were trying for 2 year. It happened on the 5th week of pregnancy. I am really worried if I would be able to get pregnant at all. My pots symptoms started after the pregnancy. Well i actually only had few fainting episods, but then last december i got sick and that when my pots syptoms got really bad. I think i had some kind of virus. So, i am not sure if pregnancy was an onset of pots or virus. At first i didnt kow why i was so sick and being in graduate shool working on my doctors of physical therapy, i believed doctors when they said it is anxiety from school and kept on feeding me anxiety drugs. Well that didnt help much. I am now on xanax 0.25 x 3 per day and was taking midodrine, but now switched to flurinef. Also i am taking nexium for the cough that i developed a year ago, think its acid reflex. I know i can not get pregnant on these meds. I am planning on trying to get off xanax in octeber. But dont know how to do without other meds. This december it will be a year since i got really sick. Any sugestions anyone how you were able to get pregnant with this sickness. My doctor said that i will feel better when pregnant because more blood flow, but how do i get pregnant on all these meds. This is so depressing. I am scared that I will not be able to get pregnant. Also any advice on what hormonal tests i need to do to check for fertility and stuff. Last time it took us 2 years to get pregnant and it ended up in miscariage. Please any advise woud be great. Thanks a lot.
jaddico
Gemma,I recommend that you see a reproductive endocrinologist (infertility specialist). Your history of miscarriages and difficulty in conceiving in over one year makes me concern with infertility. How do I know..I also have infertility due to medical reason. I have Pituatary problems, fibroids and endometriosis which caused me multiple miscarriages. I have son now (almost 3) and I'm 42 . He's here due to infertility treatment and I Thank God everyday for him. I had terrible POTS during my pregnancy, it was worst during my 3rd trimester and I would never forget it. I had severe morning sickness which caused me to lose 20 lbs and did not resolved until I delivered my son via C-section ( which was recommended due to my heart rate). I stayed on inderal for quite sometime to help get my heart rate down during and after pregnancy. It is different for everyone however, but I was one of those women that got worst with POTS during pregnancy. Yours however may improve . Pregnancy was just tough on my body overall but its worth it every time I look at my son. Best wishes and please seek help with a infertility specialist. Do a forum search pots and pregnancy. Gemma
Thanks for reply marigold. I already scheduled an appointment with one in september. I called my regular gyno, but she said that for those testings i better see either fertility specialist or endocrinologist. May I ask if you had pots before pregnancy and if you did how did you manage to be off meds during the time you were trying, or did they allow you to be on certain meds. My concern is while i will be trying to get pregnant, how will i be able to be off medications. I take, xanax ( plan on getting off in october), flurinef, nexium. jaddico
Gemma,I had history of shortness of breath, feet neurpathy , dizziness, increase heart rate and heat tolerance years before pregnancy. I had two abnormal pulmonary function test and my heart rate was high with activities but no one could understand or comprehend why. My doctor thought it was allergies , anemia and possible asthma . These symptoms came back with a vengence and were very bothersome during pregnancy. After pregnancy, the neurpathy wouldn't go away causing major work-up for dysautonomia and small fiber neurpathy. I will see a specialist next month for more answers. I just know that preganacy was hard on my body and my symptoms were greatly enhanced and unbearable. Since you've already have POTS diagnosis before pregnancy, I think you will hopefully get the care that you need during pregnancy, rather than trying to get a diagnosis when pregnant. I was on bedrest my entire 3rd trimester.
