Freaked Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Started getting pains in my legs and hips lately (have pains everywhere else, so why not; haven't been tested for things like lupus yet, but might be just fibro or something) and it just got me wondering. I've been very sedentary since this all started 5 months ago. I know that many potsies experience blood pooling in the legs, have blood vessel constriction issues, poor circulation to the extremities and can't walk around much. These are all very much deep vein thrombosis risk factors when untreated (and a lot of us go untreated for quite a while).Has anyone's doctor discussed this with them? I can't find anything discussing it so far, though haven't checked the medical journals, but I assume if we were at a significant increased risk of pulmonary embolism from DVT it would have come up? MomtoGiuliana Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I've asked my specialist about this and he says the pooling in and of itself is not a risk. I believe inactivity can be a risk factor however. It is important to move around from what I understand--eg perfectly healthy people can develop clots during lengthy air travel. Quote
spinner Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 has your potassium been checked for periodic paralysis? Are you hydrating sufficiently with electrolytes to prevent cramping? But with POTS it wouldnt surprise me if clotting is more likely. I cameup with a blood test one time indicating I had a clotting enzyme go positive.I never did anything about it. Didnt get worse.I excercise 6 days a week Quote
louloutinks Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 I was told by the autonomic unit, if you have pots, there is much less chance of heart attack, stroke or blood clotting due to the lability of bp. Quote
