Agreeky
Quick ? My neuro told me to check my bp, laying/standing. Everytime I try to do it standing I get crazy numbers. Like once 150/40. Then I move my arm a little and get a whole new number. What is the best way to hold your arm standing with wrist monitor?
Guest Alex
from what I've been reading you should hold your arm extended horizontally when checking your standing BP - not sure if the wrist monitors are different Alex
Agreeky
Thanks Alex I will try to do that and see the numbers.
lejones1
Do you have the Omron brand? I used one at a friend's house once and the positioning was actually kind of odd - definitely different from upper arm cuffs and she told me that her readings were way off if she didn't do it correctly. I think you're supposed to hold your arm up to your chest, almost like saying the pledge of allegiance (I'm hoping you're American and that makes sense). Your wrist is supposed to be right in front of your heart and you can use your other arm to hold that one steady. There were little beeps and a symbol showed up when it was in the correct position. I think she got all of this from reading the manual. If you have a different brand that may all be different though!
diabeticgonewild
I have the same problem with upper arm BP monitors.I now use the CVS brand wrist BP monitor, which works fine. However, I put my wrist monitor across my heart when taking the BP reading. http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/CVSpharmacy-Advanced-Wrist-Blood-Pressure-Monitor?skuId=800228 (The bad ratings mostly have to do with the specifications of the product described online, due to the inaccurate battery size)This wrist BP monitor has high ratings on amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Omron-Series-Wrist-Pressure-Monitor/dp/B004D9P1A8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1371330247&sr=8-3&keywords=bp+monitorHere is a BP log I made for people with dysautonomia:Excel Version: http://depositfiles.com/files/n6xah211sPDF Version: http://depositfiles.com/files/2qjup0mmz
Dizzysillyak
I immulate how it's done at the doctors office by standing next to something about shoulder high that I can rest my arm on. My entertainment center is 1 step from my sofa so I use that. Mine's never shown any wacky numbers tho. Maybe yours needs a new battery ? Agreeky
Lejones I have one called wristech. I only paid 12 bucks and I think I got what I paid for. I have tried the position you suggested and a few others. Maybe my bp is just that wacky lol. Diabeticgonewild thanks for all the links. I might get the one you suggested. It seems a lot nicer than mine. Dizzysillytak which one do you have? I might bring mine to the docs and compare it to theres to see if I should get a new one or not.
