looneymom
I've read several articles on potassium. I understand that this can be a big issue with POTS. What test are accurate? Does your body give you any tale tale signs? My son has a hoarse voice 50% of the time. His voice might be fine in the morning but hoarse in the afternoon. It comes and goes. Some days he is fine. This happens anytime of the year. Just wonder if this is a symptom of low potassium.
Guest Alex
periodic blood tests checking for the potassium levels. i was on florinef up until recently and it took a while until I figured out how much extra potassium I need to take as a suplemment. Bananas, OJ, dried apricots and baked potatoes (with skin) are my main potassium sources. My only symptom of low-ish potassium were PVC's, or so I think. Kellysavedbygrace
When at Vanderbilt in January they had me on a sodium and potassium balanced diet that got me to thinking more about potassium. My grandmother always had low potassium so since being back I've tried to add potassium a bit.As far as measuring goes I'm not sure if seurum levels would mean anything. I get between 5-10 gems of salt a day and have for the last 18 MOS yet both my serum and urine sodium levels are normal. How can that be? looneymom
I've heard that florinef can cause issues with potassium. My son has been on this meds. for over a year. He also takes 8 to 10 grams of salt a day. Maybe its time to request a blood test to check out his potassium levels. This last summer he had test that showed low renal and adlerstrome levels. My son is still not able to stand up since he's had the flu. Just wondering if electrolites are still out of balance. Sorry about spelling. Just frustrated because my son is still having a rough time of getting back up and being able to walk again.
Guest Alex
Looneymom, you might want to do that since your son has been taking florinef for so long, particularly if he hasn't supplemented potassium, as florinef is notorious for potassium depletion. Batik
I've been wondering about this, since I drink salty water rather than a branded electrolyte drink. It's easy to include potassium, you just put some low-sodium salt in the mix, but what should the proportions be?
SeattleRain
One ER visit showed I had low potassium levels. 2 days later I was back in and levels were normal. I eat several bananas a day now - they have a lot of potassium in them. Avocados and leafy greens also have a bit of potassium in them. You can look up the "Daily Value" for the foods you eat and see if you're technically getting enough.
