hi Liz,

I believe it's the anion gap you're referring to.

It refers to the acid-base equilibrium in the blood.

here's a website where you'll find a bunch of info on that - it's a bit heavy on Chemistry though

this lists possible reasons for either a low or a high gap.

Also, certain labs report 5-16 mmol/L as the normal range.

I'm sure your dr would address this if it were a reason for concern.

mine has been slightly out of range once or twice but i was told not to sweat it.
