Does Frequent Standing Help Your Oi?

Just wondering has anyone pushed themselves gradually over a period of time, doing more and more standing and seen any improvement in OI?

Walking exercise/gradually and steadily has helped me tons, but I have to take it slow and build bit by bit and most importantly keep it regular. Just wondering if controlled standing would have the same effect. E.G standing for 30 mins initially or whatever and adding 5 mins day by day.

I work from home or in the office with my legs raised, as having them unsupported would result in dizziness very quickly, but I'm wondering about working standing instead. I can stand for longer than sitting without getting dizzy! I don't want my body to get used to having legs supported, i know it's important to keep challenging it.

With my pooling of blood and fluid in the legs I keep them elevated as much as I can but do get up often to walk. Walking does not bother me but standing still, I cannot do for very long. I can pedal all day on my recumbent stationary bike and was doing 70 min. of treadmil in the aquaciser at therapy but when I, for instance, try grocery shopping (raising arms above heart level to reach and squatting and bending to get things on lower shelves and standing to read list or labels or deciding which product I want), I start dropping. My cardiac specialist in dysautonomia told me that whenever I am standing I should either cross my legs (but I need to hold on to something) or shevel (swaying back and forth or side to side, shifting the weight from one leg to the other). I sit through Sunday services until the very last prayer and hymn but I shevel and have done fine with that so far.

There's a technique called tilt training that I was told to do -apparently thats all they do in Belgium. You stand with your back to the wall, feet about 6'' to 12'' away, body straight and shoulders leaning against the wall. I was told to do this a few times a day and record how long and increase each day if possible. Might help with you if you have a problem standing.

I have thought a lot about how standing or not standing is related to my current symptoms. When my symptoms started I was doing more sitting than ever, with my new job and then even more sitting with injuring my knee and having surgery on it. Then we had children and I found that I was not getting out as much. I think it's probably multiple things, but sitting most of my day was probably one of the contributing factors. I even thought about that Wiggles actor and thought about his life and how he likely went show to show with lots of sitting on planes and buses. I would be curious if he had to sit a lot between shows??

Regardless, training again to be more vertical I think is part of the answer. So, my bed is tilted. At work, when I'm sitting I try not to cross my legs if I can help it and try not to put my hands above my head. I'm trying to do tilt training two times a day at 10 minutes each time. When watching TV, I try to watch part of it standing instead of sitting. I think the more I can work my heart to return the blood to the heart, the more my body will adjust naturally. That is my hope.

thanks for the replies everyone.

Alaska - your on to something. since tilting my bed i have improved drastically so it makes sense that standing will help to. going to start the tile training/challenges.

On a related note does anyone know how far you can go with bed tilt, im up to 6 inches, not sure it it's wise to tilt further
