Hey guys. So I had a stomach specialist i had been seeing but she got me to a stable point to where my stoamch issues weren't really a problem anymore. But now they are back and what is weird is that my stomach issues feel diff and have other symptoms tht are there. Now I get stomach issues every day with nausea. Also it gets worse when I drink all that fluid I am supposed to be drinking. Does anyone else have stomach issues? Any advice or info on what helps would be great.... Thanks!

Hello Potsgirl93!

I don't have POTS, but have a form of dysautonomia called autonomic neuropathy and my stomach issues are terrible. I have a lot of nausea, but I also have gastro paresis. Fluid used to be really hard on me. I slowly...slowly worked my way into juicing and that has helped me a lot, but I still have some pretty bad days now and then. Wish I knew more. Has your doctor been made aware of this? I had to do some testing to get my diagnosis, but I do notice there are a few on here also with POTS with gastro paresis. What that is..is where the nerves in the stomach become somewhat paralyzed or sluggish and food does not move through like it should and it just makes a person sick. Feeling full all the time. And when I'm having orthostatic issues, I notice my stomach gets worse. Hope you feel better soon. It sounds like you are too young to be dealing with these issues. so so sorry. I'm 47 years young and I don't like it. Can't imagine how boring this probably is for you. Hang in there.

I'd put it off long enough too and bit the bullet today to go ahead and get into my GI. Hate going through another battery of tests and had been trying to wait til all the Jan appointments were done, but guess I really should do it (especially since seeing an incidental finding of atrophied pancreas when they checked my aorta via CT scan--PCP got a copy of the scan but made no mention of it).

I have TONS of stomach issues, with the symptoms varying and changing in the way they feel, or severity. Sometimes it's indescribable but the way you describe yours is much like mine if not the same. Mine started a few years ago with just the nausea, but since has worsened with so many different symptoms going on in there..... and the diarrhea and pain down there.... and much more......

i've not seen any stomach doctor yet, as my integrative doc and I are going about different approaches. For my severe nausea and vomiting now, marinol is the only thing that helps.... it also seems to calm all the other stomach issues as well. We also found that for me a good quality probiotic daily and a gluten free diet has done wonders for me with my stomach...... that has been 2 months in the works and i can surely tell a huge difference in the stomach issues alone. As my symptoms have lessened in severity, and 'stomach attacks' (that's what i call mine) have lessened, and the diarrhea has lessened sooooo much. (oh and i also chew up DGL tablets, they are licorice tablets to help soothe the stomach lining and digestive lining track...... they help tremendously for my ulcer :)

hope you feel better..... i sure know how it feels :(

I've had nausea, and bowel cramping in the last few years, before being diagnosed. It seemed to get worse when I had major vertigo and dizziness. I finally went to a GI doctor, because of persistent pain in my left side, and he did a colonoscopy (about the same time I was diagnosed with Dyautonomia/Mitral Valve Prolapse/Sleep Apnea). They only found a small polyp, so I was glad of that, but I notice that when I'm not eating properly, it gets worse. Small frequent meals helps me, balanced diet, fluids frequently throughout the day, (not too much all at once), and yogurt with active cultures helps the bowel keep the bacteria it needs. I try to stay away from caffeine and sugar, because that seems to add to my problem. I love nuts, too, but if I eat too many, I suffer the consequences. I can go from one extreme to the other, from constipation to diarrhea. I have lost 10 pounds in the last few years. I take urogesic blue for bladder spasms (another problem that I have), and this can work for other cramping in the bowel, as well. I would rather not take any more medication that I have to, so my symptoms have to be severe for me to take anything for this. I try to be as active as I can, and try to make it to the gym twice a week. When I was really dizzy, I couldn't do this, but now with medication for increased heart rate, I can. I'll be honest, I have to push myself to go, but it is worth it, and I can usually go twice a week to use the elliptical machine. I hope this helps:o)

Yep. I have POTS and I started throwing up after eating about three months ago. I was in the hospital several times and I am currently on TPN (total parenteral nutrition) at home. They have thought of several different potential causes- delayed gastric emptying (don't know because I am unable to complete a gastric emptying study because I just throw up the food) or cyclic vomiting. They are not sure why but tricyclic antidepessants have been shown to help with cyclic vomiting and can help with nausea if other meds have failed. Have you tried Reglan or a med that would help speed up your stomach emptying? Ever had a gastric emptying study?

Reglan crosses the blood brain barrier and is not tolerated by some people. My GI doc woudnt even prescribe it, but instead put me on motilium. Also, I don't vomit, but I ruminate... Food gets pushed up in my esophaegus. Very horrible and likely due to untreated gastroparesis for so long...

From what I've seen, food intolerances are the main caues for digestive problems but most gi doctors won't look for these because they're only trained in giving meds and doing procecedures ... They don't look for causes ...

So far celiac disease and h pylori have caused me to get gastroparesis ... both result in gut damage. Celiac disease can be addressed via diet and h pylori is addressed via antibiotics.

An integrative doctor can help with finding the CAUSE of your digestive problems by running the appropriate tests ... Or you can do your own elimination diet. Just be sure to keep these possilbe offending foods out of your diet for a few months then add them back once you're feeling better so you can really see if they were part of the problem. Adding these foods back in before you're feeling well won't give you a clear answer.
