Mcad Dr. In Kansas/missouri?

Recommended Posts

My son has many spots on his back. They look like acne at first glance but it is wide spread and in the light you can see wide spread light brown irregular patches. Looks like some photos I have seen. I want to get it checked out. His skin also gets red and raised when lightly scratched.

Hi...I had a great dermatologist that did not specialize in MCAD, BUT he did know of urticaria pigmentosa, TMEP, and also what mast cells look like in the skin. Perhaps a good dermatologist in your area who has been doing this a long time can help your son. They could have the spots biopsied....I just read my report. A mast cell stain has to be performed with toludine blue and giemsa stains. A good dermatologist and pathologist should be able to help you with at least this part. I just called around to multiple dermatologist offices until I found one who was familiar with cutaneous masto, UP, TMEP, etc.

Hi kcmom-

Like many specialists, the mast cell disorder gurus tend to cluster on the east and west coasts...but I do have some recommendations for you. I ran across a post on another site, in which a patient recommended a Dr. William Baird in Springfield, MO. He is an internist, but apparently he trained under Dr. Joseph Butterfield at Mayo (a famous mast cell researcher.) He is apparently very knowledgeable and open to exploring mast cell disorders. BTW, my local allergist also trained under Dr. Butterfield. He is so good that he coordinates all of my care.

The other recommendation that I would have is Dr. Joseph Butterfield, himself at Mayo, MN. I realize it's a bit of traveling, but pretty much expected with this type of rare disorder.

Best of luck. please be sure to tell us what you learn.

Hugs-

Julie
