iheartcats
I want to talk to my doctor about switching beta blockers to try a selective one. When you have switched, do you just go for it or do you have to wean off one and then onto another? jonathanireland
hey I think maybe the safest way of doing this is too wean off the original B-Blocker and gradually start the new one.Hope it goes well. x

iheartcats
You want to go to ?what from propranol?Metoprolol because it's more selective.
cmruls
My doc says that coreg(carvedilol) is one of two that act centrally, the other is bystolic (?crosses the blood-brain barrier)to help reset the ANS dysfunction and help control HR and BP. I initially took midodrine for 1-2 months and then it was stopped- I didn't need it anymore. How long have you been on the propranol? iheartcats
I've been on Propranolol for 1.5 years and it was really helping. I've been on Metoprolol for a couple of days and feel awful. I'm waiting to hear back from the Specialist's nurse (but they are so swamped it probably won't be for a couple of days) and I really want to go back on the Propranolol. I don't know if I can just start taking it again and if it will help as much? I'm kind of miserable on Metoprolol.
momdi
Mike's cardiologist switched him from Inderal/propranolol to Toprol XL and didn't do any weaning. Just stopped one and started the other.OTOH, talking with his neurologist (Mayo Scottsdale) the other day, he suggested going back to Inderal. He's been having a lot more hyperadrenergic symptoms lately, and the neurologist says that since the Inderal is non-selective, it has more effects on the brain as a whole. Have you heard back from your doc yet? Dr. Low, at Mayo Rochester, initially put Mike on Inderal, and that seems to be his preferred beta blocker. Or maybe more for hyper adrenergic types? iheartcats
I am back on Inderal/Propranolol. It was more helpful to me...I was shaky on the Metoprolol. Maybe that's because of all the fluid loss, though, but I was more dizzy, too. It just didn't seem to work as well. My Cardiologist said we could try it again someday to make SURE that was the cause, but no need to rock the boat if Propranolol is helping.I've talked to other POTSIES and Propranolol seems to help us most. I wonder what secret thing it does to the brain? I'm already feeling better back on it, even with a cold. It's a huge improvement for me.And yes, I just switched the next day because it's a 'similar' drug. I'm glad I'm back on Propranolol.
