tiger
Does anyone know if the hormones in birth control reduce the levels of serotonin in your body? I am on Nuvaring which I like because it produces a steady level of hormones but am concerned about it reducing serotonin levels.
Megan
I don't know, but when I was seeing a psychiatrist (before my actual pots diagnosis...) he never mentioned anything about birth control being a problem. I'm on depo-provera, which has done nothing but help me in all of my health areas. I think I may have heard once that it can increase depression, though, so maybe it does lower seratonin? No idea, but I'd like to know also.Meg
MomtoGiuliana
All I know is that I have never been able to tolerate bcp's...
flop
I take Yasmin (a combined oral contraceptive pill) the booklet lists loads of possible side effects but doesn't mention anything about lowering serotonin levels. I also take an SSRI for POTS but have been on birth control without an SSRI in the past and didn't have any problems, if anything my moods are better on birth control because of the more constant hormone levels.Flop
