I really was glad to see you did an article about service dogs. I was placed with my medical alert service dog 5 years ago. He has changed my life greatly. He keeeps me out of the ER, lets me maintain my living independently, and helps the public deal with my disease when i have a flare up when out in public. He is absolutely my soldier! No other way to call it. It is a hard discussion to make because of the cost, but he has given me a better life. It is a commitment and takes alot of time in learning how to establish this vital relationship. Im glad you pointed out that you just cant call your pet a service dog and be out in public with them. Over a year ago the federal government turned it into a felony. Those of us with "real" service dogs know the importance of this law. But if you are considering getting a service dog and set up a funding internet page....you will not regret the time put in. My guy has been taught 3 medical alerts, and is completely dedicated to my well being. your service dog will be too!
