  1. Oh, Yes. forgot to mention I am now taking 325 mg of ferrous sulfate each day with colace. And now that I read more on this website, I see that POTS can be a temporary condition for some people when the blood volume is low. Well, That is my situation. I am going to mention the rising of my blood pressure upon standing to my OBGYN on Sept 4th for the Pre-Op visit. If she notes my BP is still doing the same thing, I will track it in the hospital as well and during my recovery. After I fully heal from my surgery I may follow up if it is still bothersome. But right now I am thinking I am having POTS-like symptoms from the anemia and loss of blood. I seem to have so many of the symptoms heart palpitations, dizziness, I am getting winded easilly However, these are all symptoms of anemia too. Thanks
  2. Hello, Brand New Newbie here- I was hospitalized last month during my menses for a hemorrhage and a fainting episode where I was out COLD. I was given blood tests of course but was shown to be only mildly anemic, a hemoglobin of 10. The doctors gave me IV fliuds to build my blood volume and tested my orthostatic (spelling?) blood pressure every hour. The blood pressure never went down upon sitting up or standing, instead it went way up. I heard the nurse mention Tachycardic? a few times. In any case I was released after receiving fluids, and once the bleeding slowed down. The Doctor saw no risk of me fainting again because my blood pressure was not going down when I sat or stood up. They sent me home to follow up with my OBGYN for the Abnormal uterine bleeding. I saw the OBGYN who now has me scheduled September 10th for a Hysterectomy leaving my ovaries and tubes if they look healthy. I am 40, have 3 kids. Reasons for wanting a hysterectomy might be, I have a history of cervical cancer(1997), a retroverted, tipped way back uterus, and history of heavy periods. CONCERN IS : I have always fainted or near fainted. I remember as a teen going to the pantry (with sliding doors) to get a snack and holding on to the handles and whooops>>>>> taking a ride to the floor. I have had periods of time in my life where i near fainted almost 10 times a day, with noises in my head, darkening of the room, strange feeling, vibration...but I would brace myself and snap out of it. I have maybe lost total consciousness 6 times in my life, but this last time was very scary, out COLD, no warning, woke up to daughter over my face. I GOOGLED " Blood pressure goes up upon standing" . and this site is where it took me. When reading what POTS is, I really think I have it. Maybe I got lucky and the heavy period induced a blood loss that aggravated the POTS and made me faint. If I was not paying such close attention to the remarks of the nurses regarding my blood pressure not being vasovagal-like(spelling?) I would have never looked into this. Now I am wondering if I really need this Hysterectomy. Can POTS cause menstrual issues, anemia, heavy bleeding? Or, maybe I should take care of the Old troublesome uterus... say goodbye to it, and follow up with this Fainting, blood pressure issue when I heal. Any comments? Suggestions? In the past I have had strange illnesses like chronic hives, positive ANA test while the lupus specific tests negative I have been diagnosed with Panic Disorder which causes me, you guessed it,... a racing heartbeat, anxiety and heart palpitations.. I have long bouts of fatigue and sheer laziness, exhaustion which have been sometimes taken seriously and tested but always finally diagnosed as DEPRESSION. any input sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Barb
