Hyperadrenergic - CRASHED HARD, Headaches Help

Recommended Posts

I have Hyperadrenergic Pots, Male, 33, and have been on the adrenaline side for years overstimulated and awaiting specialist treatment in Queens Square London, till then it's just me.

I live in the overstimulated wired state, and I've experienced crashes but nothing like this, I'm confused as to what state the CNS is in when this happens? I understand PEM but this isn't that, I feel ill with adrenaline, and I wanna be sick... I am in pain, extreme fatigue, dizziness, bad stomach, tremors, and a tension headache that I can't lift shift 5 days on.

What triggered it;

6 am wake up - lift -> train 1HR (Comfy) -> taxi -> appointment and home by 2 pm with that in reverse.

Since I've been resting all day, napping 2 hours and sleeping at night 8H-10 although my eyes lids look like I haven't been to bed.

What has helped others to treat a tension headache?

Has sodium helped anyone?

Meds PD; Diazepam 5mg x 3, Propranolol 40mg x4, Amitriptyline 30mg during the day, 50mg at night, Clonidine .25 x up to 6x a day

@WreckingHotelRooms,

So sorry you’re going through this.

You didn’t mention hydration or sodium? I need 1 1/2 to 2 gallons water and 5 grams sodium (not salt) per day to maintain stability. BUT everyone’s “number” is different.

I am also hyperadrenergic, when in flares I’m helped by meditation and breathing techniques. Especially “Box Breathing”, there are many variations of this but a simple one is: 4 second in, 4 second hold, 8 second out, 4 second hold, repeat. The longer out breath stimulates the parasympathetic system (calming). I also find chanting and meditation helpful. You can find many resources regarding these exercises on the web. My favorite is the “insight timer” app. It’s free, search for box breathing!

Whatever you choose best wishes! Hang in there, we understand.

Thanks, Maine!

just downloaded that app, yeah I wouldn't have thought about breathing exercises.. I'll have to look up box breathing.

Yeah, I've 0 advice other than what's written on my medications the only reason I take sodium is because I've read about it.

I usually take salt stick caps at 215 sodium x4 daily till my legs feel somewhat less tight but that's just 860mg, that's nothing in comparison, to you, but judging by my legs, I could definitely up my sodium. How did they arrive or you at the number?

also how do you get that much sodium? most I see is around 215mg, this 100 tablet bottle you'd finish in just 5 days at £30!

There are internet calculators to help in quantifying salt vs sodium,

 https://foodwatch.com.au/blog/measures-and-conversions/item/how-to-convert-sodium-to-salt-and-salt-to-sodium.html

is one example. For the salt I’m using (different salts may have varying sodium values) 5 grams of sodium is in one teaspoon of salt. I constantly monitor my salt cravings and match them with my sodium levels after blood tests. Make sure you get medical advice as individual needs vary widely.

Hydration is harder to quantify in my humble opinion. More trial and error to find the optimal quantity for you. But you know it when you find it! Before hydrating and salting I was bedridden for 16 months. Within 3 days of finding my “numbers” I was sitting and walking!

Another thing helping me with POTS in general is the CHOP POTS exercise program. I’m on month 4 and it’s really making a difference. Just search “CHOP POTS” and you’ll find it.

But please be careful and follow medical advice. Everyone is different, with varied histories, meds, side effects, and comorbidities. What helps one of us can hurt another!

Best wishes from Maine!

Thank you, Maine, a lot of great insights that I will have to revisit with fresh eyes (it's 4.30am).

Your story is very inspiring, sounds like you are making great progress, I wish you all the best, before your post I had been reading about salt and put a table spoon in a 1liter bottle, I can feel my head and legs getting the relief they needed, thank you
