dizzytizzy
I'm looking into Mayo or Cleveland Clinic for autonomic testing/diagnosis as well consults with neurology, rheumatology, and possibly endocrinology...and maybe other disciplines depending on what shows up. We're closer to Cleveland so my PCP has referred me there. However, after talking to scheduling, I found out I'll need to schedule each appointment separately, as in separate visits. I was hoping to do it all in one go or at least see a few doctors at once but scheduling was not helpful in this regard. I've heard of instances where people have gone to see, let's say, a cardiologist and then the cardiologist sent them along to a neurology consult the same day. But I don't think that's always the case. Is one clinic better than the other about taking an interdisciplinary approach and doing essentially a head to toe evaluation with different specialties all in one visit? I have a complex health history and have been told many times that I just need to be hospitalized and fully evaluated to make headway and receive a proper diagnosis. Don
I saw Mayo in Jacksonville, FL. It was a good experience. I saw three specialties. But on different dates. The appointments couldn’t be on same day. Here in FL, there is a hotel on Mayo property but I’m pretty sure it’s expensive. I was seen by Mayo for about three months. dizzytizzy
Hi @Don. I'm glad that you've had a good experience! I'm currently scheduled to be seen in the CC autonomic clinic in November. They were booked our further, but I happened to call when they also had a cancellation come through. Maybe I'm expecting too much, I suppose. At this point, we'll have to make at least three separate trips to be seen by the different specialists and it's an 8-hour roundtrip for us. statesof
I've only been to Mayo in Rochester, but my experience there overall has been good. The thing I liked was that since all the specialists are in the same system you can see the 1-4 doctors you need to see in a short duration of time and most of the doctors I have seen there are very good. Typically if I were to try and see an optomologist, neurologist, cardiologist etc. and get tests from all of them around where I live it would take months and I've have to go to numerous practices. That being said some of the doctors have long wait times before you can see them, for example the autonomic specialist was a 6 month wait before I could get an appointment. I have heard good things about Cleveland Clinic as well and have thought of going there in the past.
Colomom
My son is scheduled to go to Mayo for Dysautonomia, they scheduled a full weeks worth of appointments with room to add more if needed. I have taken family members to Mayo Rochester and Phoenix (not for Dysautonomia). The majority of Mayo patients travel great distances to go to Mayo and Mayo makes every effort to get everything in in one visit. Mayo will give you a detailed appointment guide and will add in appointments and testing as needed, I was blown away with their efficiency at scheduling. Mayo excels at interdepartmental communication, it was so refreshing to deal with specialists that communicate effectively with each other. If you do go to Mayo be sure to take advantage of their concierge service, they can give you a list of hotels that offer discounts to Mayo patients.
