lillybits
Hello I havent posted in a while but I was wondering how health care is out there? I lived out there 9 years ago and am looking at moving back. the humidity is killing me out here in wisconsin.i am on the last stages of getting my ssi but will need state health care because of that. my son is also on ssi due to his touretts. my husband is also disabled due to back injuries..We are looking at the havasu area. I just need to make sure that we will be able to recieve health care out there for my pots, eds, gi issues and lupus.. thank you!kim
azmusiclover
I deal with state insurance a lot with my kiddos. They are all on Long Term Care out here. It was difficult to get. Tourettes would not qualify so you'd have to figure out a way for him to meet the 4 qualifying diagnosis' to receive state aid. (autism, epilepsy, CP or mental retardation) I know that services are more difficult the further away from Phoenix you are. I had friends in Yuma who would routinely drive to Phoenix to meet with the specialists. You'd probably end up having to do the same thing, either coming to Phoenix or driving up to Las Vegas. I think the medical is better here than Las Vegas for sure, but outside of Mayo, Arizona is WAY behind the rest of the country. I think we are in a medical black hole truthfully. The humidity does stink. I can honestly say that I am way better here, even on my bad days, than I was when I got sick in Michigan. Havasu is nice, hectic during spring break and gets a little hotter than Phoenix during the summer. Good luck with your decision!
arizona girl
Hi, sorry to hear you all are dealing with so much. What I do know is havasu is closer to las vegas then phoenix and as it isn't a big city you may not have access to the specialists you need there and will probably have to go to vegas for them.I would guess that once you get ssi, then you qualify for medicare/aid? You would then need to contact them and find out how they provide services for an arizona resident and if you can go to the nearest city center, even if it is out of state.I too can't handle humidity add the heat in and I get so sick. lillybits
thank you. my son has been diagnosed with aspergers and epilepsy. has not had a seizure in a year tho thankfully. my daughter has mito issues as welll as myself. we are the portrait of health i swear ha ha i figured that we would have to drive into phoenix. one of my friends works for neurology associates out there. i just need out of the humidity like yesterday. i know the monsoon season is going to be hitting out there soon also so i am hoping to move winter or spring.oh ya is ahccs still available out there? thank you, kim
azmusiclover
Kim, since you'll be in a different county than phoenix, you might be able to get on services quicker. You can get ahccss still but they are super tough with the criteria. Even with getting ssi. Be prepared to fight for the coverage and having to apply more than once. Monsoon is already in swing and it's been pretty humid this go around. If you are waiting, I'd say a good time to come down would be october. Beat the heat and the freeze! See you around this winter maybe!
