lieze
Wow what happened?I was behind the wheel had driven to the post office for my eBay then to drug store for more pediasure sidekicks and then had to run across town to pick up a kid,Part way through my drive I was getting the urge to eat but all I had with me was one of the sidekicks and a chocolate bar.Well on that long drive back just as I went to turn the corner onto my parents street it happened. A blip and everything started going black I mean instant. There was going to be no pre anything then blip again and black again and thank goodness I made it down the street and in the house.I still don't know what happened.I've had PAC's before where I would get the headrush and lightheaded just off and on for years-for some reason this felt more intense.I got really sleepy after and never really fell asleep but laid down for a while half asleep half awake.Anybody else have this happen?I don't know if I could have called for help I'm half afraid to drive now. MomtoGiuliana
Have you had a full cardiac evaluation? Have you fainted before? If this is something new you should talk to your doctor about it.I have powerful PVCs/PACs that can make me feel, very momentarily, strange, including slight visual disturbance. I have mentioned this to my specialist and it has not concerned him b/c I have had thorough work up and it is momentary, and I have POTS. I get episodes of slightly low potassium which I think makes this worse. I try to maintain K+ levels when I feel badly by drinking fruit juices (eg coconut water which is rich in K+). I find this can help.
lieze
I have had several full cardiac work ups.Maybe it was nothing to worry about like you said it was just for an instant it just got me because it was 2 back to back.I think possibly if my sugar was a bit low it may have contributed.I'm gonna try to stay hydrated. Not go anywhere without food. It's like when I get that urge to eat I need to.Maybe a blood sugar thing and then if it does happen again I may get my heart checked out again...who knows I could go another two years and not have another blip like that. The thing is how instant it was.I guess fear wise I could go either way but at this point I am not fearing it-it happened so fast that I'm just not going to worry much about the what ifs.As far as driving if I feel that start again I may pull over right away and try to get my bearings. It wouldn't be a bad idea to contact someone let them know where I am and what is happening so they can call for help for me in case I can't.I don't drive a lot and I try to choose country road as much as possible.I'll try to be very careful because obviously I don't want something to happen where I wreck my car and injur either my occupants or anyone else on the road. : )
lieze
I've never fainted before. My heart seemed to go back to regular rhythm right away so hopefully if it was enough to make me faint I would convert and come to.I tried coconut water and reacted.I can't wait til the day when all of this food reaction stuff let's up...I'm liable to gain 20 pounds cause I keep thinking of everything I want to eat. : )
MomtoGiuliana
I've definitely had episodes like that out of the blue. I know it is scary. And like you say, also in my case, you can go a long time even yrs without having another one. For me I think it is triggered by a combination of things--low K+ and, not sure why, but often within a couple hours after eating a meal. I think movement of food from my stomach triggers nerve action that causes PVC's/PAC's.I would not hesitate to pull over (safely) if I started feeling badly while driving. I've actually done that before myself.
MomtoGiuliana
Sorry you had a reaction to the coconut water. It is expensive, but I have found it effective during flare ups.
lieze
I just had potassium checked in September and it was okay. They are doing more bloodwork in 3 weeks to check my iron levels-I'll ask if they can check potassium again along with that.
