Ernie
Hi everyone,I am wondering if there exist a medical protocol telling doctors how to treat us when we are in the hospital? There medical protocols for all known disorders. They tell the doctors step by step when they see a patient with this condition.I would appreciate if any of you have information on POTS or NCS protocol. Thanks
flop
I think that most hospitals write their own protocols for disease management. In the UK there are some nationally agreed protocols such as for treating acute asthma but mostly it is up to the senior doctors to write the protocols / guidelines.I know someone with a rare disorder called porphyria - the consultant has written a specific protocol to be followed when she has a crisis, it details exactly what IV fluids, meds and pain medication she is to be given for the first 48hours. Her hospital notes and her A&E chart have copies of this protocol and she also carries one with her in her bag in case she gets taken to a different hospital. If anyone knows of any POTS or NCS guidelines/protocols I would love to see them. I suspect that we all might need treatment tailored to our own needs though. I guess asking your specialist to write one just for you may be the best thing?Flop
