  1. I get these surges periodically, usually just for a few hours after I exercise or get stressed out, but occaisonally for days or weeks at a time. I'm in the midst of one right now, actually. For the first time ever, it prevented me from sleeping last night. All night, my heart was pounding and I felt flushed and hot, especially in my chest. Just felt "on" in a way that made sleep impossible. I'm wondering, if these might be caused by norepinephren as well as adrenalin, would a norepinephren re-uptake inhibitor make it worse or better? Is the problem that there's too much NE around, in which case an inhibitor would make it worse, right? I take wellbutrin, and when my symptoms first flared up last week, Dr. Grubb's office suggested that I up my dosage to 300 mg per day. Would that make this heart racing/pounding/surges thing worse? I'll try Kava; anyone else have any other suggestions about how to calm this down - I hate being this "pumped up" or whatever so many hours in a row. My heart and I need a break!! Thanks in advance for any suggestions/input. Steve
  2. Thanks for the responses. I actually didn't realize that tomorrow is Friday (my schedule's all messed up - thought the weekend was here and I was on my own Dr.-wise), so I'll definitely try to get a hold of the Dr's office tomorrow and see what they say. thanks again.
  3. Hey all, I just started taking Wellbutrin 5 days ago and am having some non-fun side effects: flushed/temperature swings, sweating, nausea and headaches alot worse than usual, anxiety, and had the worst bout of dizziness/lightheadedness I've had in a long time today. I'm wondering how long it takes to gauge your body's reaction to the drug. Is this all (or most) going to go away soon, or should I take it as a sign that this drug isn't for me? thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me. steve
  4. Dizzy - Sorry, my post wasn't too clear. They didn't prescribe it specifically for headaches, but just because my symptoms overall aren't improving. The headaches are a new development and are part of why I'm overall not happy with my progress, but it isn't the main problem or anything - that's definitely the difficulty concentrating/low mental energy. I hate bananas - I hate them too! And I'm at about the same level of schoolwork that you were, so that is very encouraging. When I work I go longer than 20 mins, but I shouldn't cuz right around then I start losing focus and lots of symptoms get worse. Thanks for the post!
  5. Yo, I've picked up some new symptoms recently (headaches, some nausea, etc.) and was advised to try Mestinon. From what I've seen on the board, though, it seems that most people take it to help with temperature regulation and GI issues. I have some problems with temperature and do get nauseous sometimes, but I can handle that. What I can't handle is the brain fog and trouble concentrating (I'm in grad school and need to get back to work on my dissertation at some point!). I've seen a few people mention Mestinon helping with energy, but they seem to be the minority. And it seems like a lot of people take it, so thought I'd ask - has Mestinon helped you with cognitive symptoms? Significantly? Anybody have experience with both Mestinon and Adderall (which I'm currently taking and giving up to try the Mestinon)? Which is better in your experience? thanks. steve.
  6. Hey, I just stopped taking Adderall (the idea being to stop for 2 weeks and then try Mestinon) and am really tired today. I was told that there aren't usually withdrawal symptoms, but from what I've read online there seem to be people who say the opposite is true. So, I'm wondering what other people's experiences going off Adderall are. Did it make you extra tired? If so, how long did that last and is there anything that helped and should I taper? Or, is there not really any withdrawal symptom and it must just be that the Adderall was really helping and this is just how crappy I feel without it? thanks alot. steve.
  7. I've been told that a single beer wouldn't be a problem and I've had 2 over a few hours and been fine too. That's just me, but for what's it worth ...
  8. Thanks for the feedback. The idea of doing less than 1/2 of mental work is pretty discouraging (I'm supposed to be writing a dissertation!), but in general and especially before this latest stretch I've been pretty fortunate in terms of not having toooo bad of symptoms, so hopefully I'll get back there shortly. Best of luck, and thanks again.
  9. Hey, This is my first post, but I've been using the board for awhile now - mostly to confirm that other people have had whatever issue is bothering me at the time. I had been doing a good bit better (able to do some school work, a little exercise, etc.) but then hit a bad spell. Started getting pretty bad headaches at the back of the head and nauseau, neither of which I had had before. They aren't nearly so bad now, but still come back at times - I've noticed that mental exertion will bring them on, I think standing has, and yesterday I was fine until I laid down for a nap (but shouldn't that have the reverse effects of standing?). At the same time, several of my older symptoms came back: lightheaded on standing more often, more noticeable pooling in feet, muscles get sore very easily, trouble staying asleep, and sometimes a burning sensation in skin, usually on my back. Since it looks like plenty of dysautonomics get the headaches and nauseau and since the other blood flow related issues came back at the same time, it seems safe to say that the blood pressure stuff is the cause of the new symptoms too (too little blood to the head, I assume. too little to the gut?). But it's discouraging to get the old symptoms, much more so with these newer, more bothersome ones. So my question is what might have made the blood flow worse? I did a bit more school work during my good phase than I probably should have, but could that have so thrown my system out of whack that it caused all this for 2 weeks now? Or is there something else that might have done it? Or is this kind of worsening common and unexplainable? thanks alot, steve Oh, in case meds matter: taking Nasonex and Singulair for allergies (which I never had - or noticed - before the dysautonomia, I think I'll have to post about that too and adderall. I did up the adderall to 20 mg around when this setback began, but on days that I go back to 10 I don't notice any difference in symptoms.
