  9. hi! posted this to another topic...too... and hope it helps you too!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ hi all! i read SOMEWHERE...and cannot find it now.........that dysautonomia affects metabolism.....bigtime...and can throw us into bouts of hypoglycemia easily---due to what we eat. i have avoided refined sugar/high carbs ALONE====>[TRY-I SHOULD SAY..LOL].....eat only small meals for years...since being sick and undiagnosed for years.... as the following info helped me alot!!! [also--processed foods...nitrates...-NO CAN DO! ] ================================================= INFO GOD SENT ME:): Balancing Your Meals For Blood Sugar Control ? Eat a small meal or snack every three to four hours. ? Eat within the first hour upon awakening. ? Eat a small snack near bedtime. ? Eat before becoming hungry. If hungry, you have already allowed yourself to run out of fuel [low blood sugar/ hypoglycemia] Balance Your Meals The optimal level of insulin to glucagon is achieved by a diet that contains carbohydrates balanced with proteins in a ratio of approximately two to one, that is, approximately two grams of carbohydrate per gram of protein and gram of fat per meal or snack. The Role of Fat A small amount [3/4 tsp. to 1 tsp.] of fat (butter)[no margarine] or cold pressed vegetable[virgin olive oil] or seed oil should be a part of each meal in order to help control the rate of entry of glucose (blood sugar) into the bloodstream. ================================================ ****GUESS WE SHOULD ALL EAT THIS WAY, ANYWAYS...... ****ARTICLE ALSO INDICATED HOW ADRENALS GET EXHAUSTED...AND EXPLAINS WHY...WHEN WE DON'T BALANCE CARBS/PROTEINS....with or without having dysautonomia. ****i was so thankful when the Lord showed me this info......hope it helps all of you also!!!!! ================================================= An excessive ratio of carbohydrates to protein results in excess secretion of insulin, which often leads to intervals of hypoglycemia. The body, in an attempt to normalize blood sugar, initiates a counter-regulatory process during which the adrenals are stimulated to secrete increased levels of cortisol and adrenalin. It follows that an excessive intake of carbohydrates often leads to excessive secretion of cortisol. This contributes to chronic cortisol depletion and consequently, adrenal exhaustion. In order to stabilize blood sugar, you must maintain a balance between two hormones, glucagon and insulin, which are produced by the pancreas. Protein in the diet induces the production of glucagon Carbohydrates in the diet induce the production of insulin. Insulin promotes fat (energy) storage. When excess carbohydrates are eaten, the body produces large quantities of insulin and little glucagon. This high level of insulin results in more fat being formed and stored. When insulin is high and glucagon is low, the adrenals are called upon to produce excess cortisol (see later on in the document what cortisol is all about) as a back-up response to help raise blood sugar in the absence of adequate glucagon. This occurs at the expense of the adrenal glands, contributing to adrenal exhaustion. ================================================== God Bless all of you! Maggee

We are steadily growing thanks to you! We have added two new people to our team, Anna and Jennifer. We also have a toll free phone: 1-877-485-4042! Finally! Prevent Weight with Sleep According to a study of nearly 70,000 women over a period of 16 years, researchers found that women who slept 5-6 hours or less had significant weight gain (33 pounds more) compared to women who slept 7 hours or more. Besides the scientific hormonal leptin level influence, my take on this: If you are sleeping more, you are not eating as much. If you are awake more, you are more exhausted forcing you to eat more sugary snacks to keep you going. So - lose weight and get more sleep! Aim for 8 hours. Side note: Fibromyalgia sufferers are found to have poor sleep history prior to symptom onset. So sleep may prevent fibromyalgia. Histamine & Vit C According to Tulane University's research, there is an inverse ratio between blood histamine levels and blood vitamin C levels. What does this mean? This means that a person with low circulating vitamin C is more likely to be more allergic or sensitive to seasonal pollens, pets, foods and others. Histamine triggers your blood vessels to open a bit allowing your immune system out and about. A hyperactive immune system is not ideal as it causes immune cells to react to more substances. (Very short story to a complex subject, but you get the point!) Put simply, increase vitamin C intake and decrease histamine. Given that this is allergy season, that little tip may prove useful for many. Put away Benadryl and pick up vitamin C. I find that the buffered forms of vitamin C are easier on the gut. If you can stand the powdered forms, they are way cheaper. Look for buffered vitamin C at your health store. Read the histamine vitamin C study... 14. wow, Lisa...so happy for you!!!!!....and glad the trip is over for you, and you can rest up now from it:) i, also, am going to see Dr. Grubb, when i can get in...and would like to know if you had to stay more than one day for any tests??? i live far [for me,anyways--its far....lol ]....and have been wondering how long i would have to be away from home, when i go---as got a sick husband here..and cat that needs insulin shots 2x a day....so arrangements--some kind--would have to be made for their care...as well as getting my butt there..... would greatly appreciate any info/feedback,hun....and my prayers are with you that the new drugs, and exercise are a blessing to your health and take you onward toward a better life---and hopefully that dream of motherhood---->>>to be fulfilled! thanks in advance..... best regards, Maggee
  15. hi! just in case your not aware: florinef is a steroid...and steroids deplete you of potassium/calcium/magnesium. best intake of potassium is from food... know sweet potatoes...and tomato juice are high sources...as well as bananas. can look up on net...to see food list:) i take a 2:1 ratio of calcium:magnesium also. i buy a cetain brand, so please PM me if you would like to know brand:) know lack of potassium and magnesium can cause tingling, amongst other things, and can be ever so dangerous!!!!...if you get too low or high in the potassium....!!!! hope this helps! ((((hugs))) Maggee
  16. OOPS....... BY THE WAY..... celiac dx diagnosed by 4 or so blood tests:) Maggee
  17. HI! A FRIEND JUST WENT MANY YEARS...SAMO PROB.......AND DOCS OVERLOOKED POSSIBILITY-----COMPLETELY OF 'celiac disease'....WHICH IS A PROB W/ SMALL INTESTINE...CAUSED BY GLUTEN DISTROYING VILLI IN SMALL INTESTINE...AND symtoms range from chronic..'got to go'-no warning...or bam!....to bloating..constipation...yada.... ***so search on web....very interesting! so sad....so many years go by...and these docs not 'cluing in' on so many possibilities.....arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! anyways....i surely would inquire...and hopefully the doc doesn't go the all 2 heard response of==='what's that???!'......oh my....... good luck hun....heck of a horrible way to live on top of all else we endure. best regards, Maggee
  18. hi! i've tried them all...... best....most comfortable....and i am miserable w/out them: SIGAVARIUS BRAND....DO THIGH HIGHS....30-40 COMPRESSION.COME IN 3 COLORS. BEEN WEARING FOR YEARS........ BUT, NEED DOC PRESCRIPTION, KATHY. best regards, Maggee
  19. hi! just my 2 cents: i have had fibromylagia for years...... ...but didn't start with joint paint [boths knees..shoulder...lower back=UGH!!! ] until i started on beta blocker--inderal...bout 3 months ago. you didn't list your meds..so don't know if you on a beta blocker. this doesn't seem coincidental to me at all, but as always, it could be...?? my overall pain is worse since on the beta blocker. best regards, maggee
  20. hi Julia, i used to do cardiac ultrasound, and Mvp's....in yonder years...earlier,i.e....were easy to manufacture...and give a false positive dx....OR MISS...AND GIVE A FALSE-NEGATIVE DX. SO, could be case..when you got positive diagnosis....before. today, i believe diagnosis' are more accurate....but again---depends on expertise of who is doing them, needlesstosay, as w/ everything:) **my cardio--told me....mitral regurgitation......very minimal...on my ultrasound===WAS 'ARTIFACT'....and not real. said artifacts in that realm show up on most ultrasounds. anyways...sorry bout going thru that with your teeth...sounds horrific! hope this helps.... best regards, Pam
  21. my joint/muscle pains became worse with use of beta blockers...and also leg swelling incresed with their use:( compression hose===cannot bear to be without them on! got to find right style for you tho'....and mine are thigh highs....===the best! so comfortable! can't state brand name here....so please PM me if you'd llike to know! [by prescription only....not OTC'S] BEST REGARDS, Maggee
  22. hi radha! yep, sure dOES seem a lil backward,huh.....since beta blockers are bp meds??? here's my scoop on it: first, i have had orthostatic hypotension for years.....never high bp. when i was first trying beta blockers for POTS, I would...[and still do]...take my bp...and eat himalayan salt.....or regular salt with food/water intake....to raise my bp>>>>before taking beta blocker--->>>in order to get heart rate down! quite a long way around to get where you need to go....lol! then--heart rate would come down.....and even hours later.....my blood pressure soaring for me. so i was either sick--from being orthostaticly low....or sick from bp being too high, as i could actually feel it....and was not funny...oh myyyy! what a maize, i thought...as well as...this is not making sense! another no win--i thought? well, was trying only 5 mg inderal at a time....until a week ago....and my body seemed to tell me when i needed next 5 mg...as i would get high blood pressure...and flip-flops a going in my heart [new for me..since on inderal]. ***i asked pharmacist bout this: he said....when beta blocker wears off...the body/brain...says....i am going to make more of the norepinephine....cuz drug decreases it....and body trying to do its compensating thing...and bod says===='lets make more'...which causes bp to go up.....AND BOD ASKING FOR MORE BP MEDS.....????? ***second factor i concluded over time here: on beta blocker write-up....from drugstore>>one of drug interactions mentioned----are NSAIDS........LIKE MOTRIN. I have taken motrin PRN for years...as cannot tolerate any other pain meds....that i know of....outside of aspirin or tylenol. i asked doc bout taking motrin with beta blocker-----and he said===="go ahead----it will only raise your bp some.....and you need that"....... i conclude now that motrin was contributing to making my bp raise too high, in conjunction with the beta blocker. so am trying now to survive w/ only aspirin or tylenol. NOW:am off motrin...as stated....and taking 10 mg inderal 2x within 24 hours..... .......seems i only need a little extra salt intake, especially in morn to raise bp---to take beta blocker.....and i drink water all day, as usual......and when i take inderal......i make sure i take some tomato juice....which has salt and good amount of potassium.....and also take calcium/magnesium....when i take the inderal. do also take b-12-folate-b-6 1-2x day....as well as certain brand of omega-3 codliver oil....and certain brand of vitamin e. [pm me if you want to know brands...:0)] so, being on consistant higher dose....of 10 mg inderal ---2x per day....and being off motrin....keeps me from having the spiking TOO HIGH raises of high blood pressure.....that were making me so sick...[and confused!!!.....lol!!!!] **heart flip-flops decreased also now. let me know if any of this 'rings any bells for you'....?????? let me know if this is too confusing, and if i can offer more explanation, Radha:0) best regards, maggee
  23. claire.... oopszzzzzzzzzz! forgot to say===i use my blood pressure as my marker for needing or not needing salt. i'm on beta blocker also...which seemed to decrease my need for salt intake....as my bp running higher since on beta blocker. also see you take ibuprophen[motrin]...which can increase your bp. so every day diff for me... some days..i do not even need salt..others i need alot...and i just add himalayan salt to some food. best regards, maggee
  24. hi! some facts: ----20 MEQ k-dur/potassium====1500 mg. potassium ----we need estimate of 3000- 4000 mg. potassium/day [so i read on the net ] ---do know all steroid drugs...like prednisone,hydrocortisone,etc...will deplete you of potassium. ----on other hand--ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY WILL CAUSE BODY TO STORE POTASSIUM IN EXCESS. so---tis a great, delicate balance to be aware of...and try to keep, as both too little--or too much....can be VERY CRITICAL, as you stated. ***many drugs can deplete....or increase potassium....in our systems. ....and am sure---many drugs have no affect on potassium whatsoever. i was in a horrible state of hypokalemia when i was on hydrocortisone, and doc neverrrr told me to increase my potassium......after 11 weeks!! i literally thought i was dying...and am sure i almost did. perhaps, in view of you having episode...that morn..before blood draw..and now knowing you were in hypokalemic state......>>>>> >>>>>your episode was lack of potassium orientated?????..or made your episode 3 times as worse as would have been????? SOMETIMES--cannot see forest for the trees, when dealing with all things to balance....all our symtoms, and surviving/alleviating them....and so many drug sensitivities too..... WARNING: medications===DO NOT>>go by the write-up we get from drug store, on whether A MEDICATION affects potassium levels....either way. ***if potassium not mentioned... >>>>search the net.....check with doctor....whatever you can do...to get correct answer, for everything you are taking! such a fine line we must try and walk each day......but thank goodness and the dear Lord we have this group, and each other!!!!! anyways.... i would try a 1/2 or 1/4 tablet at first....[as i do with allll meds.......lol ] .....and make sure you sit up for 30 minutes after taking.... [on the drug-store write up ] hope this helps.... best regards, Maggee
  25. hi all.... just a quick question, as i see many refer to B12....but i can't ascertain...in the posts...if B-12 is helpful....or harmful to our systems with POTS, ETC....??? KNOW some B-vitamins can be agravating to us...like niacin...but would appreciate feedback on B-12...and any other vitamin 'goods--and bads'....! thanks so much! hoping all having a fairly 'decent day'......:0) Maggee
