  1. I am a 34 yr old male diagnosed with NCS or vasovagal syncope. They put me on 50mg of toprol after failing the first tilt table test. I passed out within 4 min and my heart stopped for 10 sec. The second time on 100mg of toprol I passed out in 15 min. and my heart stopped for 20 sec. So they put a pacemaker in me and I still take 100mg a day. I have alot of shortness of breath and I still have to lay down several times a day. I have not worked in 4 weeks. I am worried that I won't be able to return to work. I can't drive and somedays I can't even talk on the phone without getting out of breath. How long does this last? Any advise? The doctor said I can return to work and resume normal activity but I don't feel well and I am afraid of passing out.
  2. I am on toprol 100mg a day (3wks now) and I am experiencing a lot of shortness of breath. I have a slow heart rate (40-60) and it actually stops when I pass out. I don't have tachycardia at all. They said that beta blockers would keep my heart rate regulated. I am not sure if the toprol is helping or not. I am really confused about what if anything works.
  3. Do you have shortness of breath alot? And have you had tilt table tests?
  4. I went from 50 to 100mg a day of toprol xl. I have ncs but I have a low heart rate and it stops when I pass out for several seconds, along with my blood pressure dropping. So they just put a pace maker in me and told me to continue with the 100mg. I still have syncope symptoms and don't know if I need more or a different beta blocker.
