  1. I am a designer, but I work in a building that wasn't meant for office space. The A/C can't handle the heat load, so my desk hits 80 degrees everyday. I cannot handle it without Adderall, but even then it's a nightmare. I had to get a doctors note to use a fan. It was denied because it was decided that my heat intolerance and vision loss was a symptom that could possibly go away so they couldn't see the use in getting me a company issued fan. I brought my own, which I could get in trouble for. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this but it deals within work and disability. I've read that POTS will not cause brain damage. I've also read that any disorder that even slightly restricts blood flow to the brain causes it to age at a much faster rate. In the study they found that people with circulation problems had brains that showed 2 years of advanced aging. Since advanced aging can lead to stuff like dementia, couldn't it be considered a form of brain damage? I am rapidly aging my brain by subjecting myself to high temperatures everyday. Could this be grounds for disability?
  2. Does anyone's voice change in heat? If I'm in extreme heat for too long, my voice goes a little Will Arnett-y for a few minutes. Then it goes to a current version of Clint Eastwood, which would be cool except the heat causes me to forget words, get lost in sentences and stutter. At that point, I am also unable to raise my voice. Does anyone have issues waking up? If I sleep 2 hours, I feel rested, but the chest pains are worse. There is no alarm on earth that can wake me up if I sleep more than 2. I have to be shaken and yelled at for 10-15 min. I feel like death if I get more than 4 hours.
  3. A normal dental procedure usually involves the dentist saying "Wow, really?" and injecting more novacaine about 8 times. I have assumed EDS. It's the same with all painkillers for me. There is a certain medical procedure a man can get when he decides he doesn't want to have anymore kids. To numb the area, you get 1 very painful shot. I needed 6.
  4. I sway whenever I stand still, which makes going to the bathroom interesting. You ladies may not know this, but when standing at a urinal, it's generally frowned upon to lean on a stranger...
  5. Damage done by B12 deficiency can usually be reversed if its treated in the first few months. Most doctors don't know that the standard blood panel does not accurately measure B12 levels. If you get tested, make sure they check for intrinsic factor antibodies. With pernicious anemia, B12 supplements are useless. It has to be injected into the muscle. If light continues to be a problem, you might want to check out welding glasses on amazon. I got the Jackson Safety Nemesis shade 5 glasses for under $10 and it helps a lot. They look like normal sunglasses.
  6. Thank you mama_destiny for saving me the trouble of having to type all that. Your situation is the exact situation I'm going through with my wife, except I just had to sign the separation agreement a few days ago and I now don't know where or how I'm going to live. She asked for the divorce 2 weeks before our 10th anniversary. A week later I was diagnosed with POTS, which explains everything she ever complained about. But she can't accept it and my 3 kids have to suffer for it.
  7. I have terrible vision, but caused by two different conditions. It was originally diagnosed as optic neuritis, but no one could ever explain the constant changes in heat. I actually had nerve damage from b12 deficiency which is causing a general dull color/clarity. Standing up for a few minutes or getting too hot causes the second problem which I believe is a lack of oxygen to the brain. It starts as spots but continues to get worse. It kind of like when you rub your eyes for too long and the vision is dark for a few seconds. I can't drive anymore because of it. When it gets bad, can you read a white piece of paper or does it look blank?
  8. INFJ. "The Protector". Rare male suffering a rare confition with the rarest personality type....great. I've never read anything that has described me as perfectly as the INFJ description. I understand why I have no friends now.
  9. Is divorce considered a symptom? If not, heat intolerance. Although chest pains are new and quickly becoming a bigger problem.
  10. Male. 5'9, 180lbs. I never considered weight before. I had the least amount of problems when I was 260lbs.
