  1. ugh this happens to me all the time, and is the hallmark symptom of my pots--the hr is far less annoying. What it feels like to me, is that i am not real--i feel that way because its like all of my feelings and perceptions stop for just a moment--sometimes time slows down or speeds up. My hands feel like they are not mine, or like they are attached to this dense, perceptionless, unliving thing (my body). I get super confused following them, like almost that i can't pay attention long enough to figure out anything that is going on around me. And even if i do figure it out, i lose it again, so i am in this limbo. Sometimes i also get the sensation that i am floating out of my body upwards. I think of it as just part of my presyncope. During that time, all kinds of weird things can happen. I have read before that these are called "depersonalization" and "derealization', also that they can be symptoms of anxiety/depression. However, i don't feel anxious when they happen, and they only happen during a pots attack so i have a hard time believing it is a psychological thing. It seems very physiological.

  2. yes, i think of it as my body's way of disposing of the adrenaline byproducts from the episode...however, urinating all the time doesn't help the tachy much :) Whenever this happens, i take it easy on my feet and have more salt and water. Like mcblonde, i use florinef as well, and it still happens--just not as bad.

  3. Puppylove, i tried it without eating and i didn't like it. It didn't make me feel good. Instead, i decided to supplement the juice to my diet :) I still drink water too. I plan on keeping it as a part of my diet for as long as i have pots.

  4. Over the past week, i have been trying out a new thing:juicing. Most extreme juicers will go out and buy a pricy one, i am not that extreme (yet). So instead, i have been buying thick, fibrous, nutrient packed juices like those made from odwalla, bolthouse farms, and naked brands. You can find them in most stores either in the refrigerated juice section or the produce section. I started drinking the juice in an attempt to lose some weight. However, something even more remarkable happened: MORE ENERGY, FEELING BETTER, REDUCED URINATION, AND REDUCED ANXIETY. And that leads to one excellent outcome which is less pots on the mind, more life on the mind. Today, my partner had to remind me to take my ssri & steroid in the morning. I never forget, because i feel so awful and hope it makes me feel better. It felt like i didn't need it, and that was a VERY new feeling. One morning, i actually woke up intensely craving the juice. So, i can tell the juice is helping me and i have some good ideas why:

    1. With my pots, its seems like i have a very rough time digesting food-- especially produce. The juice has liquified all of those valuable nutrients that i have been missing out on, allowing them to be absorbed much more readily into my bloodstream--therefore, providing the nutrients i need to feel good even if i do have pots.

    2. The juice is a very thick electrolytic substance that has a more powerful hydrating effect than just water or gatorade. (really, these babies are packed with vitamins, including loads of potassium for those on florinef. )

    3. The juice contains some nutrients/ minerals that are helping my pots in another obscure way.

Initially, i was concerned about the constant exposure of sugar to my gastric system, causing to much abdominal blood pooling, but, haven't had any problems yet.

There are a tons of different types of juices, but the ones that seem to work best are the thicker ones. Right not i have:

    * Bolthouse farms Green Goodness which has: Spirulina (a vitamin rich alagae-substance), Chlorella (another nutrient rich algae), Broccoli, Spinach, Barley Grass, Wheat Grass, Blue Green Algae, Echinacea, Garlic (not the best thing for pots, i know), Jerusalem artichoke, zinc, manganese, iron, vitamins a, b6, b12, and c. apples, pineapple, mango, banana, and kiwi. Also it has over 470mg of potassium per serving.

    * Odwalla Carrot Juice which has: vitamin A and 520 mg of potassium per serving. (Also ,surprisingly, tastes really good!)

    * Naked Blue Machine which has:blueberries, blackberries, apples, bananas, 370 mg of potassium and also vitamins b3, b5, b6, b12, c, e, and fiber

Anyhow, i have been having some good results and wanted to share, maybe i'll be getting a juicer soon :)

  5. michelle, it sounds like life is giving you a rough time right now. Try to keep your head up the best you can. Sometimes new living situations take some time to get used to. In the mean time, try to find a quiet place where you can relax--even if its the bathroom.Take deep breaths, imagine a quiet serene place. As far as helping out around the house, pace yourself and try not to overdo it. You'll get more done doing a little slowly each day, then a whole lot on one day followed by a crash. Additionally, i don't know what age your kids are, but maybe it would help by having them pick up some chores. It will teach them good lessons about life as well. As far as your to-be-father in law, people have opinions, especially older men, about how they think things should be. Doesn't mean things are that way or should be that way. Sometimes using guilt trips on people like that is the best. Like saying in a calm, relaxed tone: insert their name, i am doing the best i can here. Another thing that works really well is thanking people for patient behavior (positive reinforcement): thank you for your patience. Additionally, resolving conflict works well if you just address it. Sit down one on one and tell him what he said and how it made you feel. Use your own judgement though on the appropriateness of the situation, of course. I have learned that a lot of other people expect you to perform to their standards, so that they have to do less. This is ridiculous in my opinion, and i have had to learn more than anything with disease to stand up for myself and say ,"no".

  6. mytwo, i am taking celexa because i heard that it can help with pots. I was really against it for a long time, because i knew what i had was not anxiety, and didn't want to play into that mindset. However, it got to the point where i was willing to try anything to find some relief and i found that in celexa. After my first dose my hr dropped to 50! It was actually kind of disturbing how sedated i was and it kept sending off mini panic attacks because it felt like i was just super weak and even more out of control. After that, i went off of it for a month. Then i figured i'd give it a good try. They started me this time on 40mg because they could not control the anxiety. Man 40 was wayyy too much. I vaguely even remember anything that was happening to me at that time. I just remember people would talk to me and i just didn't feel like responding. I couldn't focus on anything and felt half alive, my vision was also really blurry. I remember that it didn't feel good, and that i still had pots. So i decided i wanted to reduce the dose, and 10 mg did it for me. Keep in mind, that i also take florinef, which helps keep my hr down, and i just really like the combo for my body.

  7. Emma, not to worry. It just made me feel bad for awhile. If you think you need it then the benefits outweigh the risks. Just be prepared, because it is an uncomfortable test. And don't be afraid to let the tech know you have low bp and may need some time to recover. Mine gave me some Apple juice and it helped :) might not be a bad idea to have a driver with you if you can swing it. Also good news: they didn't find anything.

  8. Oh man I LOVE my ssri. It slowed down my hr & urination, let me sleep through the night, reduced panic, and allowed me to finally relax without sedation. I take celexa, and it worked the first day I tried it and only got better from there. I also am able to work and drive. One thing to note is that the normal dose was way to powerful. Now I take half which is 10mg I think.

  9. It is also important to understand that your body is doing a lot of physiological functions while you are sleeping like filtering through the kidneys to maintain acid-base balances within the body. If you aren't sleeping well, these functions can be interrupted IMHO. It seems that sleeping enough played/plays a huge role in how I feel. Whether the chicken or the egg, those fast hr's are using adrenaline--not to condusive to sleep.

  10. 1. What scares you most about pots?

    2. What types of things scare you in real life?

    1. Thing that scares me about pots: Dying, losing control

    2. Things that scare me in life: ghosts/evil spirits, going crazy, failure, possession( the exorcist scared the pants off me!), flying
