  1. This recipe doesn't make any sense to me. The only electrolyte in it is the salt. The baking soda helps prevent your stomach from being upset from the salt. And if your body needs salt why would you put something in the drink (salt subsitute) that tastes salty but didn't give you any electrolytes. 7 tablespoons is a heck of a lot of sugar. I mean if its hard to get in enough calories then adding sugar makes sense but irregardless I dont see what this recipe provides for you. I feel like drinking diluted V8 splash would be much more beneficial as it has sodium, potassium, vitamins, and fructose.

  2. I think maybe if your doctor can help you understand why your heart rate is so high then maybe you can find a somewhat more effective treatment. I know that we dont know the cause of pots but if for example your heart is so high because your blood pressure is really dropping then maybe compression hose, increasing your salt etc would help.

  3. Meds and slowly increasing my activity is what's working for me. I use a wheelchair outside of my house because my walking endurance is so little but wheeling a wheelchair with your arms or feet can really increase your heart rate. I found that walking a few feet to a chair, sitting, then walking to the next room with a chair is what helped me the most in my house. Slowly I was able to walk through 2 rooms to a chair etc. I can't wheel myself in a wheelchair on carpet because my heart rate skyrockets.

  4. Have you looked at all into inappropriate sinus tachycardia? I only wondered because your resting heart rate is on the high side, but it didn't increase more then 30 bpm from sit to stand which is needed to get a pots diagnosis and you have an exagerated heart rate response to simple movements. Just a thought to consider.

  5. I'm a type 1 diabetic and i've been having a terrible time with low blood sugars lately. I think its a result of the new beta blocker. But last night i was 37 had 60 grams of carbs and 30 mins later i was only 42. I think I'm not absorbing food right. Is there a chance that despite having a big meal your son didn't absorb any of the sugar yet?

  6. I have one too. To "qualify" for one all you need a prescription from your doctor. You take the prescription to the DMV(where you get your drivers license) and they give you the temporary place card. I don't know about getting a permanent one. Its actually illegal to drive with the placecard hanging from your rear view mirror. So yes you can just put it up on the days you need it. THat's what I do. I'd much rather park closer and walk a long distance inside a store then walk a long time in a parking lot. It seems safer for me.

  7. I think that while many people on here will say that those are symptoms of pots(and they very well could be) its important not to miss out on other treatable causes of those symptoms so be sure and tell your dr all of them. He knows you and your history better then us so he is more qualified to rule out the causes of symptoms. I mean even if the GI stuff is related to pots there are treatments for some of the pots causes that a PCP or GI dr can prescribe.

  8. I am sooo jealous of you POTSies that are able to exercise! I tried swimming after my doctor recommended it, I did great in the water but after swimming for 20 minutes I had to sit down for at least an hour after I got out of the pool before I was able to stand... I decided it wasn't worth it. I was going to get a recumbent bike but I tried it in the store and could not even handle biking for one minute...I have also tried a beginner Pilates DVD and again had no luck. It *****, I was never very athletic in my past healthy life but I did jog and go to the gym and I miss that so so so much. I know that in a way I am lucky that after 5 years of doing zero exercise that I have not gained a ton of weight but between all of meds and being so sedentary I have gained about 20 pounds (I think getting older has played a part too), I just feel really mushy! I would love to just be able to be more toned and lose a few pounds. Sorry I just needed to whine for a second, I pledge that if I ever get healthy enough I am going to be an exercise feign!

I tried swimming after my dr suggested it too. Being in the water and swimming felt wonderful!!!! But because it felt so good to have all that water pressure on my circulatory system I swam for 25 mins and was half dead after I got out of the pool. I think I about slept for 3 days straight. So like you I looked into a recumbent bike. I could only do about 15 strokes of the pedals but I bought it and worked up to 20 mins over a few months. An exercise feign sounds like a high goal. Join the yahoo group and start with a small goal.

  9. I love the polar brand! they have warranties and are well known for being accurate. That being said most of the polar brand watches have fancy functions like calorie burning, personalized workouts, fitness tests etc that you may not care enough about to pay for. You can go to the polar site and it'll show all the functions on the watches in a chart so you can see if theres one you want. Then you can find it cheaper on the internet. Mine was $99 with lots of functions and a chest strap. I dont mind the chest strap at all. Typically chest straps are more accurate then the watch that tries to read through your wrist. And the polar watches send the hr info to a lot of exercise equipment that has the hr receiver function.

  10. Lina-I have that problem too! Freezing almost all day long but I hate wearing socks because my feet will just sweat but, at night they get sooooooo hot.

I'm so glad this topic was brought up. I have blood pooling too but, lately my toes goes numb and turn stark white. I rub them, move them and put them under warm water for a while and eventually I get circulation back. I can't figure out how I can have venous and arterial insufficiency. Where the heck is all my blood being kept? lol

  11. Like someone else said-the test isn't to make you faint its to see if standing induces symptoms. As soon as my pressure started dropping fast they flipped me down. However, I had one of the worse migraines I've ever experienced afterwards and had to lay down in the dark all day so I wouldn't plan any activities after your test just in case it makes you sick or gives you a migraine. I did feel VERY safe during the test. Usually you are very securely strapped to the tilt table and someone is watching you and your vitals the entire time.
