Small Stroke - Doctors Have No Idea Whats Wrong

I have been in hospital again. I was in CT ICU for 4 days. Thursday night I had a bad night with my heart beating very slow and not being able to sleep. Friday morning I woke up with a dead tongue. Silly me went to work and ended up on the floor shaking and passing out for long periods of time. My cardiologist and physician immediately booked me as the suspected a small stroke. I had lots of blood test, MRI and a stress ECG. I don?t show any proof of a stroke but have been put on Ecotrin for the rest of my life. My heartbeat was irregular until Friday afternoon. I started talking again after that. My heart rate and blood pressure was very low until Sunday afternoon. My doctors are clueless. They cannot understand or explain what my body is up to. Please can any of you help? I hope one of you have had a diagnosis or a similar experience to help me to understand what?s happening. My body is just getting worst and my health in deteriorating. I?m 29 and I just seem to get sicker every year. I am scared and I don?t know what the future holds for me. You all know my whole life is Britney. This is the 9 times since she has been born that I have been in hospital. All I want to do is raise my daughter. She is my world, my whole life. Help please! :(

My stress ECG shows I black out with a normal heart rate and a normal blood pressure. I wish they would stop using the word normal with pots people.

Hi, Ling. I can unfortunately identify with what you are describing. I experienced several small strokes and TIA's about four years ago before finding the correct medical protocol for me. The most important thing is to keep a major stroke from occurring- as your doctors know. If you have not found an autonomic specialist, try to do so at all cost. For me, it took 18 months of at-home iv therapy and a pacemaker and various trials with meds before I felt like I was not on the verge on another stroke at any time. It is a terrifying feeling. A pacemaker might be appropriate for you. I don't know. It isn't the end all be all but I do know how scarey those "unconfirmed" strokes are- especially when there seems to be some confusion about why they are occurring. If I can help you in any way, please message me. Hang in there and good luck-

Carmen

Hi Ling,

I am sorry you're feeling so poorly. I just want to tell you that it's a very good thing that the MRIs are now showing evidence of a stroke. Typically, if one is to have an acute stroke, MRI would most certainly confirm it. While I don't know your whole story and details of your history and exam, besides strokes, having a heavy/weak tongue can be a sign of medications side effects, seizures, electrolyte abnormalities as well as an allergic reaction. Has the heavy/weak tongue resolved? Being on a daily aspirin is just a precaution, I am sure, and will do no harm. Are you being treated for fainting with medications and fluids? I hope your doctors can help you get better. Hang in there!

I have just come back from my EEG and the results are negative. I spoke to my Cardiologist as well today and none of the blood tests show or prove anything. As usual, they have no idea what?s wrong with me or what to do. I guess I am very privileged to have such wonderful, honest and caring doctors. But the future does share me immensely. Thank you for your responses.

I am so sorry, Ling.

I wish I had the clue.

I can only think based on my own experience. Not exactly the same as yours. Some symptoms are similar, but not all. This could therefore not be related to your health issues, but maybe it is worth trying to rule this option out. Why don?t you ask them to check your adrenal hormones? (Cortisol, aldosterone, renin and a stim test?)

Pots can be caused by problems with adrenals... (That seems to be mine)...

Hope you can feel better soon...

Love,

Tessa
