joey2006
I seem to have the symptoms of hyperadregenic POTS (seems like too much adrenaline), but urine epinephrine, metanephrine and norepineprhine were all just out of range on the LOW side. Does anyone know what this could mean? Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do that helped it? I was thinking of trying Clonidine, but I am not sure it will help because of the low epinephrine. Do you know of any other tests that determine hyperadgerneric? Thank you so much. I really appreciate your help.
MightyMouse
I would think that doing catecholamine (a class of neurotransmitters including dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine) testing would be one thing that could check--when they did mine, they drew blood while I was at rest (lying down), then had me upright for a period of time before taking my blood again. I had very large "overflow" of catecholes, particularly, norepinephrine.the urine testing, from what i understand, may not be as accurate as the blood tests.Nina
joey2006
This was a 24 hour urine test that they said they typically do to check for a pheo. I do not know if this shows anything a far the dysautonomia goes.
Guest tearose
Just like Nina mentioned. My hyperadrenergic POTS was dx through blood testing.I had to lay down for 20 minutes and they draw blood.I had to sit for 20 minutes and they draw blood.I stood for nearly 10 minutes and they drew blood before I passed out.My standing norepinepherine is about 4 times what is considered normal. The urine tests never show or suggest any problem!tearose
ajw4790
Just curious... What makes drs. decide to do this test? They never mentioned it to me, and just wondering how routine it is, and does it make a difference with treatment? Thanks! Sorry I don't know anything about the test to give any of my own input/info!
