Radha, some doctors might do a consult with your general practioner or family doctor--but I don't know of anyone who'd take a new patient over the phone without meeting them, or being able to do a basic exam. Do you have a local doctor who'd be willing?

I would not do it at all. It would be dangerous. I am so sensitve and would hate to be in the hands of an unknow doctor. Trust me 99 % of them dont know anything about P.O.T.S. Not to even mention others. Even when they say they know they normal dont. I wish I could share my doctor with you she is fantastic. South Africa.

If your local doc is willing to learn, you've got a great start. Many of the docs who are specialists would be more than willing to chat with a colleague on the phone or via email. You might want to print out a listing of docs who treat POTS from DINET and also from NDRF--and give it to your local doctor.

I would also suggest giving your doctor the url of the DINET "what helps" section--it reviews many of the standard treatments and has great references.

also, you could print out the NDRF Handbook on Dysautonomias and give that to your doctor as well...or at least give him/her the link to it as a resource...or for your own self education.
