dawn Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Finally, I got a pleasant surprise yesterday. I filed for social security disability in October of 2004.I had my 2 denials and was waiting for a hearing.Yesterday in my mailbox was an 8 page approval letter signed by the judge.I did have a lawyer, but what I think made all the difference was the letters that my doctor's wrote. They went into detail my symptoms and the physical reason that they occured ex:venous pooling.IT MADE MY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Don't give up hope if you are in the process. I think the word is getting out, my diagnosis for approval was Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. Dawn Quote
taylortotmom Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 WOW- approval on the basis of POTS, specifically! That is awesome- congratulations! My approval was actually coded as three different diagnoses combined together (arrythmia, syncope, hypotension- something to that effect). But anyway- great news!Carmen Quote

Sophia3 Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 CONGRATS DAWN!Does not matter the CODE..it's the DAILY IMPAIRMENT and how your illness affects your basic day to day living skills that is important. That is what counts.Great news. Quote
Sunfish Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 many congrats dawn. i have my hearing on tuesday so hope i'll be joining in the sigh of relief soon myself.... melissa Quote
Ernie Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Hi,Congradulation. I think it's a first someone who got approved for POTS. Quote
Maxine Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Congratulations Dawn! My approval was based on the EDS, and the medical expert said the combination of my problems may be a result of that, and that the prognosis was poor as the EDS is progressive-----------------------then the judge said we were done right after the ME gave his testimony. I was surprised how much the ME knew about EDS, and POTS--------ANS dysfunction. One of my doctors from out of town summarized all of my health issues very well in a three page clinical report, and this report along with the notes from the EDS specialist/geneticist was probably what helped the most. Vascular issues were also mentioned.I did find that I had to do a lot of followup to make sure the records and FC reports were getting from point A to B.These days you have to advocate for yourself. The decision for mine was approved July 6th.Good luck on your hearing Tuesday Sunfish---- Maxine :0) Quote
thejohnsongang Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Dawn,CONGRATS on your approval. It is nice to see that maybe SSDI is finally adding POTS to their list of disabilities. What a win for you. I my self an waiting for a hearing. My lawyer is very optimistic about my case and thinks its going to go great. I sure hope so, I just get tired of waiting. It's always good to hear good new like this.Sunfish...Good luck on your hearing. Quote

lmbutare Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Congratulations!! It really takes a weight off of your shoulders. Even though it's not a lot of money (for me at least), it's nice to have them recognize that you really are sick and be able to pay for your meds at least! I don't know what I was approved for...I actually got a check before any kind of letter! Thats the government for ya... Congrats again! Great news.Lauren Quote
