I would truly feel lost without all of you. Anyhow, I am just curious and thought it would be fun to know what state/country everyone is from. I am from Arizona...and the summers here are horribly hard with POTS, not much humidity, but 110 is hot regardless! However, the other 9 months of the year are perfect!! Summers have been very hot and humid,did not bother me before POTS.Today it is 90 and very sticky,very hard to cope with.The rest of the year it's ok except for a few extremely colds days in the winter. There's fewer than a million South Dakotans.It's too hot in the summer (and humid) and too cold in the winter. We like to say it keeps the scoundrels out.I don't know where I will end up, however. My husband is planning a career change, and it probably will entail a move, either in-state or out-of-state. Our lives are in flux right now. Now, curious as to whether or not that had any influence on obtaining POTS? Seems like a LOT of Ohioans and also a lot from NY, PA and that area. Sunfish Posted August 3, 2007 Report Share Posted August 3, 2007 hi lauren -first, as a minor clarification, not everyone has POTS but rather a variety of dysautomias. there are definitely a lot of commonalities throughout the different dysautonomia diagnoses, but as one of the non-POTS folk i wanted to mention it b/c while there is definitely a tendency for forum discussions to be very POTS-prevalant, some discussions (such as where people live) aren't really POTS specific. but i digress...there haven't been any studies, but there have been some discussions here on the forum in the past, and the issue of geographic distribution of patients was also raised with some of the specialists themselves during panel discussions at the NDRF conference in 2002 in D.C.. while it is possible that there is come geographic connection in regard to dysautonomia causation, the general thought held by many is that the apparantly skewed distribution may be more related to awareness in the medical community & the distribution/ location of specialists than it is representative of the number of people who actually have POTS/ dysautonomia. ohio, for instance, has several doctors & hospitals with autonomic expertise, autonomic testing facilities, etc. whereas many states don't have any. hope this helps, melissa Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I do realize that it's all dyautonomia's, I guess it's easy to just generalize for the disorder I have. Sorry about that!That's true...they do have more specialist, so that could be a good reason why too. Hopefully as more awareness is raised on dysautonomia's that more information will be forthcoming and studied for the sake of all of us. We also have some pretty cold days in Dec. and Jan. I can't handle temperature extremes. Seattle, Washington would be perfect for me.I hear from a lot of different sources that Ohio in general has a high prevalence of MS, and other autoimmune diseases. corina Posted August 3, 2007 Report Share Posted August 3, 2007 hallo from the netherlands. i live in a little village near amsterdam (where my hubby works at the airport). today we've had lovely weather, very good weather for dysauonomia, not too hot, not too cold, about 22C (sorry can't keep in mind how to say that in Fahrenheit).soooooo melissa, some people will be having lots of fun, don't you think??? the weekend will be warmer which means it will be VERY nice to have a drink at the Rembrandtplein!!!(sorry guys, this will just be understood by melissa. no secrets here, it's just that people she knows are in the netherlands right now)take care,corina Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I really got spoiled with cold winters and pleasant summers. Now I'm in Georgia. We had to move in with my parents here last fall because I was no longer able to care for myself long enough for my husband to go to work. Hopefully someday we can move farther north again. I used to love the weather here (little to no humidity); now even the 80 degree days are too hot. I can't wait for fall and winter so I don't have to fight the heat. This may be another reason why there are fewer people out West. Most people have also included their hometown in their profile - if you're looking at a post it shows up on the left hand side under the username. sandy Posted August 4, 2007 Report Share Posted August 4, 2007 I am from good old New York. really don't like the cold weather. I have a very hard time staying warm in the winter. My hands and feet become white and numb from lack of circulation. I like the warmer weather much better. My husband and I are planning to move to Florida in around 6 or 7 years.. cardiactec Posted August 4, 2007 Report Share Posted August 4, 2007 sandy, i hear ya about the winters .....we know the true meaning of the word WINTER here in maine! i cant stand being cold. my HR's are much much higher in the summer than in winter but i actually think i feel better in the summer than i do in the winter, just because it is actually physically painful for me to be/feel so cold in the winter -- and not be able to ever get warm!
