Migrianes

Recommended Posts

I have heard some mention getting a shot for the pain? What is it that they give you? I had a shot once in the dr office (didn't help even a little) but can't remember what it was called. Is there more then one kind?

They were very surprized to hear it didn't work.

Anyone else find that it didn't help?

Thanks ;)

Amber,

This is what I am getting right now. Vistaril 50 mg and Nubain 10 mg. I have got the shot 3 times in the last 7 days. The thing is the shot relaxes me enough to get some sleep, but the migriane, sometimes comes back. :) Hope this helps. One thing I have learned is becarefull if you go to ER, they just druged my so much, they gave me high does of IV morine (sp?),and then 3 other shots though my IV. I was so sich, and dazed, then the released me and I couldn't even walk. ( whole other story, but the when I finally came too enough still had the migrian.)

Hope this helps!

I have been given DHE as an IV in the hospital when my migraine has failed to respond to early stages I have in my treatment plan for POTS.

Do you take anything regularly to prevent Migraines?

The best advice my headache specialist gave me is take something (i.e., Maxalt, Imitrex, DHE nasal spray) to stop the migraine early in the process. Don't wait too long. The longer you wait, the harder it is to stop.

They usually give me Demerol and Phenergan. One doctor insisted on giving me Nubain then they wheeled me out of the ER - called me a druggie! Let me see..... I went in once in 2001 with a migraine, and then in 2003..... The Nubaine did nothing - except cost me big $$$

Now my Primary Care gives me Vicodin and Phenergan to keep here at home so I can head it off before it gets a good start.

Thanks!

I have tried so many meds to prevent the migrianes..nothing has worked, although the Cardio had put me on Toprol XL for the Tachycardia and that seemed to work. Could have been a chance thing too, I have had migraines for 6years and I have had them come and go. I'm waiting for the go part :) right now. They seem to be getting worse then better at this point.

I know how bad the ER can be, I went home feeling worse then when I went in. (I was pregnant and bleeding with pain plus had a migriane start on top of it, everything was fine with the baby by the way. Don't want anyone to worry  ) Anyway, they gave me all kinds of meds and I don't think I reacted well with something.

Again thanks,

Amber
