sstephan
HiJust wondering if anyone has ever had unexplained bruising. I have had several bouts of this on my legs. Looks terrible- I get large huge bruises all over my calves and thighs. The docs have seen this and did some bloodwork but everything is fine. One doctor actually told me I am running into things and just not remembering it. I think I would remember based on the size of the bruises. People always ask me what happened and I don't know how to respond! It's not all the time....only sometimes. They just reappeared again and am wondering if anyone else has experienced this.Susan
calypso
Have you experienced weight loss and/or muscle mass loss? That is the cause of my bruising, I think; if you have less cushion to protect your vessels, you will bruise much more easily. Also, low blood pressure can often cause or result from poor circulation, and bruising goes hand in hand with that.Amy

cmtaylor5
I've had this problem for years. Just bumping into something small leaves a huge bruise (even if it doesn't hurt when I do it). One doctor I had noticed the bruises, and ran a blood test of some kind for a bleeding disorder, but it came back negative. Since my POTS dx, the neurologist I see says that it's related to fibromyalgia. It is pretty unsightly.Carolyn

ellepee
You should probably ask your doctor to have your blood taken for a complete blood count. A low platelet count can cause bruising. It's still a mystery as to the cause....but one morning (as if I don't have enough things to worry about!) I woke up with bruises all over my body, I also had dark red spots in my mouth and on my body - not sure if you have any of these? It turned out my platelet count was dangerously low. For me it went back up on its own and no one knows why this happened and I'm constantly being monitored from now on- but I would suggest having your platelet count checked- a low count could be a serious complication to a medication and I don't want anyone to go through what I went through. nadine
I have had this problem for over 15 years, maybe longer. I have had numerous tests, including some for clotting. They always tell me everything is fine. I have read information that this is reported in CFIDS and FM pts. I am not sure what causes it, but I know I get them when I stand a lot, increased physical activity or when I am run down. They have always been the size of finger tips, usually on legs, but more recently started to get them on arms. They are always yellowish in color for me. Not uncommon for me to have a cluster of them. I actually had someone ask me if someone had grabbed me, because they did look like fingertip marks!! No answer after all these years!! Jacquie802
I think mine is caused by me bumping into things....This brain fog I get doesn't help, since I can't remember what I have done!
sstephan
NadineI just had the same experience yesterday! I have a cluster of bruises on my arm and my neighbor looked at my arm and asked if I was safe in my home. Ah yi yi.
JaneEyre9
Just wanted to add a "me too" about the bruising. I never understood why but i bruise very easily and sometimes can't explain where they come from. If i actually do bump into something, look out because i get the nastiest looking bruises. I even bruised my arms trying to play volleyball several years ago (before POTS). My basic bloodwork is normal.
sstephan
Thanks for the replies. I called my doctor today and he wants to do another CBC again tomorrow just to be sure. Interesting that you all get bruising too.. This illness is certainly bizzare.
MotleyLori
I have a lifelong history of easy bruising and excessive bleeding. My diagnosis are EDS hypermobility and POTS. My bleeding was finally diagnosed as a delta granule storage pool disorder. This is only found by doing an electron microscopy of the platelets. My platelet counts are normal, but there is a lack of the "delta granules" in the platelets that needed for normal clotting to occur. All blood tests up to the microscopy were normal. Dr Grubb is the doctor that put the puzzle pieced together and ordered the diagnostic test.
Wufflebear
this is just another "ME TOO" about bruising. I have done this my whole life. If I rest my leg off the edge of the bed it will cause a bruise where the side of the bed is. I bruise constantly, they dont hurt and I have no idea how I get them. NO one has ever explained why to me either.
willows
I have a bruising problem , but its not the 'norm 'A few years ago I noticed that the small veins in my fingers started to burst .First I'd fell this sort of burning , then painful tingling .........then you could actually watch the vein just under the surface go !!!! COR .........did it hurt. I've had rather a lot of these now and they are jolly painful, sometimes I cant stop the bleeding under the skin ( I apply pressure to the point it started) and my whole finger fills with blood and goes as stiff as a board.I've been told that if the vein will not stop at the base of the finger to get help ASAP. Just recently I got a scare as a vein in my tongue went and that filled up ( huge black bruise afterwards ) you try holding you tough to stop it swelling and not dribble everywhere, hubby got quite sacred as now he wonders where else a vein will go.So now I've been put onto dissolvable aspirin each day in case of stroke ..............what else can my silly body throw at me ????Answers on a post card Willows.
