bamagirl
I am not a fainter. I have these horrible episodes of tachycardia with high BP and then I am tachy for weeks afterwards and very sick. I had a blood test for metanephrines and normetanephrines and they came back high. I will not be able to see my endocrinologist for another week. Has anyone else had this test and if so what does it mean with dysautonomia?thanks, bamagirl
Sunfish
bama - could it per chance have been epinephrine & norepinephrine? if so there's a definite POTS connection for some (i'm not one of them) & there's info on the site that you could do a search on. otherwise i'm not sure... melissa
futurehope
The metanephrin, normetanephrin (sp?) are metabolites of epinephrine and norepineprine and their concentration in the blood is used to diagnose pheochromocytma. I found this out by doing a google search and looking at:http://www.his.com/~graeme/pheo.html
mom4cem
Hi Bamagirl,I had that test done along with the 24hr urine to check for pheochromocytoma. The only thing that came back a bit high was my plasma normetanephrines. Dr. told me the test was fine. I am also going to see an endo next week for the first time to get some other tests done. calypso
I had this test -- mine came back normal. I believe if yours are high, you could have an adrenal problem, but these are rare (i.e., pheochromocytoma, a tumor on the adrenals). Hope you get some answers.Amy
