Survived MRI

I made it through my mri. I am so claustrophobic, it's almost unbearable for me.

My bp and pulse were sky high. I could feel the cuff on my ankle and it was pumping way up there, but when I asked her she said it was fine. She also to me to shut up. I was praying and so she pumped me full of meds till I couldn't move. Sheesh.

Anyway, Now will wait for results. I go next week. I need to sleep off this stupid versed even though I got it at one pm. morgan

I am glad the test is over. Now the next part, waiting for results can be just as harrowing. At least you will know soon.

I always tell myself that I am stronger than I think I am, even with POTS. I will be watching the board to read your results.

Hi Morgan,

I am glad you made it thru the MRI. I can ONLY imagine your claustrophobia as I have only had two open MRI but when the big flat part is pushed within 7 inches of my nose and the noise starts. I think the noise sometimes gets to me and I wonder if it's louder for you in an enclosed one.

I look foward to hearing your results. Hopefully it will give some clues and be interpreted properly.

I didn't know you where having an MRI. What was it for? I haven't been reading posts or writing lately.

I'm fortunate to not have claustrophobia, in fact I find the MRI scanner quite cozy. I feel like I'm in a

a safe secure little part of the world. It relaxes me. Maybe I should ask Santa to bring me one for Christmas. I sure don't sleep well in bed.

thanks for checking in with us. i was thinking about you knowing the MRI was coming. glad you made it through despite the unpleasantness of it all. i can't imagine getting through an MRI if claustrophobic. of course i don't hope anything TOO dramatic shows up the tests but i'm also hoping you get some answers or direction in helping you to feel at least a bit better.

hope you were able to get some good sleep/rest last night. versed usually knocks me pretty flat for at least 24 hours so i'm impressed you posted at all!

Dawn, I had an MRI looking for the reason my left leg is so weak and weird. Maybe stenosis, or impingement. So I had an MRI of my lumbar spine. I initially went to see him because my upper back hurts.

But they will only address one thing at a time and he feels at this rate, I won't be ambulatory much longer. I told him it's pots, but not knowing what that is, he resorted to the old standby's...tests, tests and more dang tests.

I planned on sleeping the stuff off last night, but my hubs has a horrible cold and coughed and snorked all night, then my dog couldn't stop barfing.

She is now in the hospital with her fourth bout of pancreatitis. And she isn't even 1 1/2 yet! She is my baby (Lois, I'm sure you understand) and that sure isn't helping my symptoms. argh....

The doctor thinks I have Parkinson's, and they are ruling it out on my dad, plus Lou Gehrig's disease , so have to deal with his hysterics. It's been a long week.....

Lou Gehrig's is the scary one to think about, it's what one of the first docs who saw me thought I had it. (it's one of the differentials for myasthenia). I think that gets diagnosed with emg's, the mri is just to rule out other stuff.

Agreeing with you wholeheartedly about tests tests and more tests.

I've had a bunch of closed mri's--I don't think there's an open mri machine in my city. I'm not claustrophobic, but I've heard from claustrophobic cancer patients that the mri was up there on the panic list. By us they give stereo headphones with the music of your choice. I've learned to bring along my absolute favorite. For me it's horrifficly painful to not move my leg for 45 minutes.

BTW, I hope your pup pup is okay. My kitties are my heart... and I tell them all the time that they are NEVER allowed to leave me, but they're getting quite elderly for kitty cats: 19(insulin dependent type I diabetic) and 17(terrible skin allergies and bald spots). Non-pet people wouldn't understand that I'd pay my last pennies for medicine and food for my cats before I fed myself. I can't have kids, so I have kitties... and they've stayed beside me through thick and thin. Hope your puppy is home soon.

Hope your MRI results are normal and that your dog is better. I lost my lab last year at age 7 to cancer, and I can't imagine how horrible it would be to have a sick dog as young as yours. I am so much a sucker for dogs, too!

UGH...

Well I got MRI results today. I have 3 bulging discs, hypertrophic ligaments, spurs, degeneration, and get this, hypovolemic discs! Geez, we can't retain water anywhere, can we.

So not great, but not bad enough for surgery, which I wouldn't have anyway. But then this dork said, well I can't find your THORACIC x rays. I said, well that's because you refused to take any last time. Oh yea says he, well maybe we should take some. Oh my, do you think it's necessary, says I. Oh yes, with all the trouble you are having says he. So I do it. (Please recall the reason I went in the first place was for my thoracic)

So he's looking and going oh well, you have scoliosis to the right and degeneration in every thoracic vertebrae, and spurs everywhere. Hence, the pain. Ah, it felt good to be right..... Nothing to do for it, but at least know what the problem is. I am going to try and get some in home p.t. as I am so weak and my pots is completely wigging out. I don't know what's up, but man have I been feeling crummy.

Thanks for the input for my baby. She is still feeling pretty punky. Had her to the vet tonight for a special test they send to Texas, and it tells whether she is going to continue having problems. If it shows positive, she will have to go to heaven, because she will just suffer too much here. This of course will crash me like nothing else. Please keep your fingers crossed that it is negative. We are not hopeful as this is her 4th bout of pancreatitis and she is only 1. Maybe that's why I've been feeling so bad, it is very stressful for me to have one of my babies sick. I know what you mean Nina, spare no expense for their welfare, but I won't let her suffer needlessly or selfishly either. Man I hate things like this. We have to wait about 10 days, so I will feel like crap waiting, and then if the news is bad, I will totally crash.

So I know what's wrong with me, but now have to see what's wrong with her. Thanks for the support....onedgemorgan

Just a thought, I have so few coherent ones... What about going to a pain clinic??? I know people with mbsa Multiple back systems atrophy....who have gained much comfort. The new patches, pumps etc are helpful. Sorry about your pup. We lost one to ca this year and our other is old and getting gimpy.

I am so sorry that your test is positive. I agree with Miriam that the pain clinic might be helping you.

The closest pain clinic is 6 hours away, so that's pretty much out. We used to have one here, but the doctors got burned out on people being in pain all the time!!!!!!!!! This from the nurse who worked there! Yikes

OMG, at least they found reasons for your having so much pain and that can WEAR DOWN the FATIGUE factor! ...and the idiot wondered where the thoracic xrays are. Sheesh. I hope you can get some relief from the mulititudes of back stuff you have going on.

And, Morgan, i can't hardly bear to think of what YOU must be going through with your little dog. My cats are 'my kids' and I have had a few over the last 20 years and lost some to kidney disease, stroke and cancer. It always STINKS but then they are taken in their youth. . . .

Yes, the waiting and wondering and worrying over tests; and looking into those little trusting eyes of our pets, is heartbreaking...yet having them suffer is worse.

I have been there with losing a few loving cats, way too young to 'go Over the Rainbow to see Dorothy and Toto '(the way a local radio friend describes passing away! He is in his 60's and seeing many friends pass away and lost his older cat Louis last winter) But he never mentioned the loss of the cat on the radio...too painful for him. So pets have very SPECIAL places in our lives, for sure.

All our circumstances are different. But when most of us adopt animals from shelters, we dont' know their history and at least we give them some fun, great times and LOTS of love while we have them. And they can be the light of our lives, and comfort us 24/7. Many animals never get that chance at all!

My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you and your little baby. Take care.

Geez, Morgan...I sure hope you get good news about Chloe. The waiting and worrying about Chloe must really be getting you down. I agree with you about not letting the pup suffer. There comes a time when there is not much more to do for the loved 4-leg member of the family and the poor critter is suffering. It is so, so difficult...

I hope that you can get some relief from your spine problems. Growing old is not for Sissies!

Is there a rehabilitation specialist (a doctor called, I think, a physiatrist (sp).

Morgan, I hope you find something to comfort your back problems. Do you think a heating pad set on low would somehow help?? I hope your chloe's test results are negative, she is waaay to young to be sick like that. It's christmas time, so maybe she could be this years christmas miracle!

Jacquie, I basically live on the heating pad, but for some reason, it has a tendency to set off my symptoms, not sure what that's about.

I have lost 4 pounds in the last 4 days. Geez, it would be nice to be able to do this because you are actually trying. My body just seems to be falling apart lately.

I have a case manager with my insurance and she okayed me getting in home physical therapy, so I'm hoping that might help, without all the stress of finding rides, getting ready, and just physically going. We will see.

I appreciate every one's support, this has been a hard time lately. I just can't think about Chloe, because all I do is cry when I do. Thanks you guys...morgan

Sorry you are going through such a rough time. I understand how you are feeling about your puppy. We have 2 dogs, Sammi is 15, I watch her struggle going up the steps and she can't hear as well but the thought of losing her is more than I can bear. On the positive side you can spend all your time with her and she doesn't have to be alone. She is getting lots of love and pets I bet

I had a bulging disc a few years ago, physical therapy helped alot. (I was teaching CPR with another instuctor, I was demonstrating the heimlich on her she fell back and we landed on the floor). I tried a chiropractor with no relief. I took flexeril too.

Do you like to read? I do, but usually end up watching game shows.
