cleo Posted December 2, 2019 Report Posted December 2, 2019 I am extremely sensitive to meds. Am worried about how I would react to internal stitches from surgery as they are ultimately absorbed by the body . Has anyone who is very med sensitive done been okay with them? Quote
JaneEyre9 Posted December 2, 2019 Report Posted December 2, 2019 I am very sensitive to medication and did not have any trouble with dissolving stitches, but I totally understand your concerns! We all react differently. Quote

This past weekend was made so sick by a reaction to an over the counter medicine and thenot started thinking about the stitches. Quote
JaneEyre9 Posted December 2, 2019 Report Posted December 2, 2019 Mine were to repair a 3rd degree episiotomy after childbirth. I've had all sorts of reactions to "mild" things most people can tolerate with no problem - melatonin, birth control pills, metoprolol (beta blocker), antibiotics, CT contrast dye. The list is long! If you have concerns, I would speak with your doctor ahead of time and ask for the ingredients in the stitches to review. Quote
cleo Posted December 2, 2019 Author Report Posted December 2, 2019 It seems like I have a reaction to every medication. : ( Quote
JaneEyre9 Posted December 2, 2019 Report Posted December 2, 2019 I feel your pain! I try to avoid any kind of medication if I can (or at least start with micro doses) and am careful with everything that goes into or on my body. You're not alone! Quote
cleo Posted December 2, 2019 Author Report Posted December 2, 2019 Thanks. You've made me feel better. Having so much anxiety today worrying about developing chronic constipation a d not tolerating any laxative or being able to eat fiber due to a stricture from crohns. And then possible impending surgery for crohns. Thanks again it means a lot to know I'm not alone. Quote
Pistol Posted December 2, 2019 Report Posted December 2, 2019 @cleo - a month ago I had my old port removed and a new one inserted in one surgery. I was left with 3 incisions, all of them had internal stitches and 2 of them had external stitches as well. There was a LOT of itching going on but no major reaction. I am also hyper-sensitive to meds as well and I have an allergy to adhesive tape, so triple-threat. All went well, I survived just fine. Quote
cleo Posted December 2, 2019 Author Report Posted December 2, 2019 Thanks Pistol. I haven't met with the surgeon yet so am notcompletely sure of if the stitches would in fact be disslovable. Don't think I can have staples because am I can'tolerate even wear titanium earrings in my ears. Have had the earring sensitivity long before I had pots. My GI doc doesn't understand the med sensitivities and gets frustrated and angry. Quote
targs66 Posted December 3, 2019 Report Posted December 3, 2019 @cleo I am ridiculously sensitive to most medications, too - can’t even tolerate most vitamins - but I did not have a bad reaction to dissolving stitches (10+ years ago for hysterectomy, and more recently for minor surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma). I was also able to tolerate an antibiotic that they prescribed after the BCC surgery (Keflex) with only some minor and manageable stomach and gut upset. Best wishes with your surgery! Quote

Thanks targs66 for me I think the medication sensitivities are the worst part of my pots. I can only tolerate 7 mgs of prednisone which I've been on for years and only from one manufacturer. If ever I couldn't get that one I'd be in trouble because it can't be stopped suddenly. That's why I'm considering surgeryso to possibly get off it. I can't tolerate most vitamins as well. Folic acid made me so sick. Quote
