What's the highest your heartrate has gotten?

Recommended Posts

My last day of work when I collapsed but remained awake. When I was at the hospital I was laying down and I think it was 156. Not sure what it would of been standing up. I was panicked as well though. My body was trying to faint for over an hour even while laying down. When they gave me Ativan my body stopped trying to faint. They kept me overnight because they had no idea why my heart was beating so fast. Basically they did an ultrasound and I wore a heart monitor all night and told me they have no clue and to see my primary care doctor and let me go the next day. I was terrified to be let out of the hospital.

And that's where my journey began of finding out I had POTS.

I saw a cardiologist and he didn't understand. He referred me to another heart doc who deals with electrical signals of the heart after I wore a heart monitor for a month with the cardiologist and saw my heart wasn't acting normal. The other heart doc immediately believed I had autonomic dysfunction and referred me to a autonomic dysfunction specialist. And there is where my POTS was confirmed.

Around 205 or 210bpm, when in SVT.

I felt very dizzy, then realised my HR was that high when I checked my pulse. Immediately sat down. Things were fading to black, but I managed to stay conscious. Called the ambulance. It remained that high for a while, then dropped to 180bpm, then to 160bpm.

My chest hurt like crazy. My heart felt like it was humming, not beating.

To be honest, doctors weren't that concerned. I was 21 at the time. They seemed to shrug it off and say "don't worry about it, you're young".

Since then, I've had it go close to 200bpm, and have had doctors act concerned, and be far more helpful.

Before proper treatment my HR would be 160 - 180 just standing while on monitor - no arrhythmia, just sinus tach. They also caught several syncopal episodes and seizures while on monitor - all just sinus tach before and during the episodes. I had an implanted loop recorder once to see if my HR ever drops ( so I could get a pacer ) but it never did, just always sped up.

160-something that I've seen; I don't remember that last digit.  I was home alone, midday; my husband was at work.  I had eaten a light lunch shortly before and I started to feel light-headed and then noticed my heart beating faster.  I put on the Pulse-Ox thing and watched it quickly go up into the 160s.  It reminded me of a speedometer when you hit the gas.  I hadn't seen it that high before; I was home alone and that and the light-headedness freaked me out, so I called 9-1-1 and explained what was happening . . . as I was talking, I still had the Pulse-Ox thing on, and it was going lower and lower, back to normal, so I told the operator I thought I was OK now and not to send anyone.   He was very nice, telling me to call back if I felt like I needed to.  This was a little more than a year ago, when I was still being worked up by various specialists trying to find out what was going on.  When I finally got to the neuro a couple of months later (referred by endo), he thought I probably had POTS but referred me for the tilt table test to be sure.

150's, whilst wearing Polar chest strap. That was not during exercise, it was just sitting, during one of my random hyperadrenergic episodes. BP also hit 170's/150's so resulted in ambulance ride.

Highest standing still HR that I know of was 136.

Whilst licorice root was working for me and I was able to run on a treadmill, it would also reach 150's but so does a healthy person's.

I never monitored my HR when healthy so do not know what it used to be when I was a regular gym goer.

I have tried many treatments so far and apart from transient benefit from licorice root, nothing helped. My main focus however is not my HR or BP which are generally normal, but how lightheaded I am, also chest pain, headache etc. If I felt well I wouldn't bother about numbers, unless they were dangerous.

I faint once I get in the 160s.

I grey out once I get in the 170's. I routinely get into the 180's + with exercise. My HR during exercise is much faster than what would be expected for the level of exertion (and age) and I will grey out (lose vision) during exercise at that intensity. My doctor suggested that during exercise, my BP drops to "just below" the threshold for my vision to be maintained while exercising upright. I have to slow down when that happens.

It has gone to 160 BPM with only standing (but I had the flu.) Not "sick," it has gone to 140's with simple standing.

Although I am considered "conditioned" due to exercise, I still have a frequent 30+ BPM increase in HR with simple standing.

They've occasionally clocked it spiking into the 170's-180's at the doctor's, just standing and walking around. The doctors who knew about POTS didn't seem at all concerned about it, except to remark that they would certainly like the tachycardia to be better controlled (the ones who weren't familiar with POTS freaked out a little). I think the highest I've seen at home is probably more like 150-160 and generally isn't sustained.
