Outaker
Hi I had one last night with very intense side effects.. I am currently on Labetalol 100 mg morning night and was forced to take a clonodine half pill to calm it down.. Does methyldopa or clonodine stop these for anyone? Why isn’t Labetalol working I was literally shaking
Outaker
I’ve been having a surge every night on Labetalol holy s***.. just added methyldopa
Pistol
I used to be on methyldopa as well, as well as several BB's, pyridostigmine, Midodrin and more. What helped me most was adding a calcium channel blocker ( I am on Diltiazem ). The combination of Carvelidol and Ditiazem seems to have improved my severe surges. p8d
I have taken both methyldopa and clonidine. Methyldopa is smoother but clonidine lowers my BP better. Methyldopa has a longer half life. Clonidine comes in a patch. We all react differently to meds so unfortunately experimentation is required. Outaker
I mean clonixine.. Methyldopa doesn’t seem to have a rebound
p8d
Definitely something to fear. I would like to get off of it but it will have to be very, very slowly. Methyldopa is on back order until at least March so I am stuck with clonidine for now.

Jessica_
Honestly the only thing has has been able to stop my surges is klonopin and a beta blocker. The klonopin calms my body down and reduces the fear and the beta blocker keeps my heart in check. It has been a life saver!
aelizabeth3300
The beta blocker propranolol mostly worked for me. It didn't completely stop the surges, but it made them less frequent and less severe when I had them. Unfortunately now I can't take beta blockers as I have an AV block. They prescribed ivabradine. I haven't started taking it yet.

Beta blockers affect the AV node (they affect the whole heart), so beta blockers can worsen that condition.
