fainting

Recommended Posts

With POTS do you only faint when you standup from sitting/laying position?  I've had Dysautonomia for a long time but for the last 2 months I have fainted while standing.  It happened again this a.m. while washing dishes.  I just went down. It wasn't hypoglycemia because I had already had juice & felt fine until it happened.  I did have a headache after.  Just wonder if anyone else does this at random?  thanks.

I think a variety of people faint in a variety of ways and doing a variety of things, but my guess is that you fainted due to the blood not making it up to your brain fast enough because you were standing.  The longer you stand in one spot, the more the blood pools in your legs and feet.  Would imagine you might have been a bit tachycardic, as well.  My youngest fainted last night because her heart rate kept going up and she just passed out while changing positions from sitting, to an attempted stand.  I gave her a bit of her propranolol and in about 20 minutes, she was feeling much better.

@gertie - I used to faint often and needed to learn to recognize the signs leading up to syncope before I was able to stop - in some cases - the actual fall. Yes- standing to do dishes will absolutely do it to you!!! And also Yes - I have a headache afterwards, more of an ache in my head and feeling tired, as well as slurring my words for a few minutes. …. If this is starting to happen more often to you and it is unusual for your I would see a specialist. You said you have had Dysautonomia for a while - I would revisit your doc that treats your POTS. Every few years or so ( as soon as we think it's over ) POTS tends to rear it's ugly head! --- I have found that as we age our bodies change and so do the dysautonomia symptoms. No difference if we are 30-40- or 50 : there will be symptoms that flare. … I am sorry you are having problems - Be well!

Thanks for your support.  No end of surprises.  I get anxiety just thinking of having to leave the house for fear of what might occur and the older I get the worse it is. Good luck to you all.

I have NCS along with Pots and used to faint a lot. Since being on florinef it’s improved. It used to happen at random, once I was in the shower. Other times I’ve been walking around the house or in the kitchen making lunch. Sometimes I had a warning sign like feeling sick or lightheaded and was able to lay down before I went completely out. Hopefully your doctor can find something to help you feel better.
