lamp_girl Posted October 29, 2018 Report Posted October 29, 2018 Wondering if I have gastroparesis-- definitely have a lot of motility issues, but it seems to happen when I'm otherwise super symptomatic with POTS issues. Does that mean it's likely or unlikely to be gastroparesis? Anything more POTS-related that would cause delayed motility type stuff? Quote
Pistol Posted October 29, 2018 Report Posted October 29, 2018 Hi @lamp_girl - this is something I was just diagnosed with. I have IBS and severe GERD from POTS but recently developed symptoms of gastroparesis. I had a gastric emptying study done and it was normal but my gastroenterologist says he thinks my gastroparesis is transient, that it shows up during flares and goes away when I get better. My symptoms are severe nausea, being full after very little food, throwing up undigested food hours after eating, bloating and heartburn. When my other POTS symptoms improve these stomach issues go away too. Quote
StayAtHomeMom Posted October 29, 2018 Report Posted October 29, 2018 I would talk to a GI. Because I get stomach symptoms they tried to diagnosis me with GERD. I made them do a scope and it came back normal (except a stricture in my esophagus). There is also the gastric emptying test (where you eat a glowing egg). Quote
bombsh3ll Posted October 29, 2018 Report Posted October 29, 2018 When I first became ill with POTS I did a lot of reading online and convinced myself I had gastroparesis as well. I've had lifelong reflux and slow motility for which I take medication long before POTS, probably also due to EDS, but time has shown that in my case it is likely to be simply that the nausea & dislike of eating that struck at the same time is related to cerebral hypoperfusion, weight loss was due to the hyperadrenergic state & loss of muscle tone due to suddenly becoming chairbound, & worsened motility due to no longer being active, rather than anything new or worse going on with my GI tract. Potsie1990 Posted October 31, 2018 Report Posted October 31, 2018 YES... comes and goes when I’m at my worst. But luckily it does go away in a few days Quote
