Claire
Has anyone taken an antidepressant with amitriptline? My doctor says no to Lexipro. He said both together will make my Pots much worse. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thank you.
Pistol
As far as I know for POTS you should be on SSRI or SSNRI to help with symptoms but response to either one is individual. I take Lexapro and could not tolerate SSNRI but my sister does well on Wellbutrin for her POTS, which is SSNRI.
p8d
Did the Dr say why? My autonomic specialist knows I take mitrazipine (same class but different somehow from amitriptyline) and prescribed lexapro. I haven’t started the lexapro yet. She prescribed lexapro because it’s helpful for some people.
jklass44
From what I know, taking those two meds together can increase your risk of Serotonin Syndrome. This condition is rare, but has the potential to be quite dangerous. Maybe double check with your pharmacist? They might have a better idea/more info. Shannoncr
i had genetic testing done for pharmacology - anti depressants, benzodiazepines, opioids, ant psychotics - & my body doesn’t respond well to SSRIs because my receptors (I think?) only work intermittently. I’ve never had any luck with antidepressants. Lexapro was the worst one I’d ever been on - I had seizure like symptoms on it BUT the psychiatrist bumped me up to 40mg which is higher than the recommended therapeutic dose. i hope they can one day use genetic testing for pharmacology to one day figure out which blood pressure/cardiac meds would work best for a person.
