I just came across some YouTube videos of girls with pots. Had never heard of it, but was a little intrigued because the main symptom is something I have experienced since my teens. Sometimes (not always) when I stand up I get dizzy. Maybe once or twice a week. Almost never resulting in a faint, but often resulting in bracing myself against something to stay up.

I just tested my heart rate sitting, then stood up and tested it again. It was 92, then 124. But I googled that and both seem within normal range?

Would you all consider this POTS? I’m guessing it isn’t a black and white diagnosis and a huge range of severity. I wouldn’t categorize myself with those that are saying it has disabled them, as It hasn’t been much more than a small nuisance to deal with for me.

The definition of POTS can be found here:

https://www.dinet.org/content/information-resources/pots/pots-an-overview-r95/

The general definition is a change in hr of 30 bpm or more or over 120 bpm on standing.

Yes, that is true that POTS can range in severity.  Some people may have this hr change but not other significant symptoms while others can experience disabling weakness, fatigue and other symptoms.  It can also range in severity for an individual--who may be severely affected for years and then gets better.  There are many potential triggers of POTS, or other conditions that can exacerbate POTS, including allergies, nutritional deficiencies, etc.  There are also many potential treatments, if needed.

Thanks for info!

After I posted this I remembered my brother (doctor) casually telling me years ago that i would get dizzy because I am anemic. I haven’t been tested but he seemed very confident I was anemic just based on my poor diet (caffeine/junk food) and being a little too thin.  So I  googled anemia and POTS and found not only are the symptoms almost identical but there have been studies that found strong correlation between the 2, meaning if you have pots there’s a good chance you are anemic. But all anemic people (15-20% of women) don’t all have the more sever symtoms of POTS.

These are only things I’m deducing based on a little reading- definitely not saying with certainty. Just found interesting and wanted to share! I’m sure you know all this anyways...

thanks again for info
