WreckingHotelRooms
I'm confused, can a tilt test show all types of POTS? (i think i'm hyperadrenergic) Just off the phone and i've got one booked for 3 weeks time. Pistol
A tilt test will show if you have orthostatic intolerance from POTS if your HR goes up 30 BPM upon standing or HR above 120 BPM. It can also show NCS if you pass out or your HR drops. It will not show the type of POTS, this has to be determined by the MD that treats you. I have hyperadrenergic POTS and had 2 tilt tests, one showed NCS and one was positive for POTS but the cardiologist doing the test did not recognize POTS. Only once I saw an autonomic specialist was I immediately diagnosed with hyperPOTS based on symptoms, Vital signs and a blood test for neuro transmitters ( norepinephrine and dopamine ), first after resting for 30 minutes and then after walking for 30 minutes. If your tilt test is positive you should see someone familiar with diagnosing and treating POTS. I do not know who does that in Australia but check on the physician list on this web site, there are physicians listed all over the world. Best of luck - keep us posted! If you have questions about it you can PM me.
WreckingHotelRooms
As long as it shows up in all types like you said, i'm good, we will find out in a few weeks, Dysautonomia is i'm certain, POTS not so sure. Dunno how i am even gonna do the test i've got so much adrenaline 'feeling wired' and not sleeping, not gonna be fun! Pistol thanks very much. Ps, I'm in Northern Ireland, not sure what says i'm In OZ
Olayak
I have really bad POTS and had a normal tilt test. So, no, it won't always show up on a tilt test. Sometimes you need more than one diagnostic test. The halter monitor showed that my heart rate jumps and my blood pressure drops. I definitely have POTS. One test alone is not enough. Good luck, tho! WreckingHotelRooms
Olayak - Hmmm, okay I am going to a Neurologist hopefully in 9 weeks, so i hope he has some grasp on Dysautonomia in general and adrenaline disorders as my adrenaline is through the roof somehow, my eyes, the tremors, the no need for sleep, goes on and on. Thanks! I will be sure to not give up the search
yogini
You can probably figure out if you have POTS by doing a poor man’s tilt test at home. Try it a few times and you’ll get a sense.
Olayak
A tilt test alone will not diagnose you. Good luck tho!! Yes, sometimes you need to find an expert!
haugr
I think that a tilt table test can be used to diagnose POTS, but not whether you are hyperadrenergic. I believe that the standard for diagnosing hyper pots these days is by comparing catecholomines in the blood stream between suppine and standing positions. WreckingHotelRooms
Thanks for all your replies. I'm starting to move away from Hyper Pots. I experience Adrenergic Storms and although I have nearly all the symptoms, I don't relate to the standing and sitting difference seen in POTS which I understand is like the main part of the diagnoses. I feel stimulated constantly. I think I am looking at Dysautonomia, I know that is just a blanket term, but if I could get that diagnosed it would be a good start. Quick example of the type of 'adrenaline' I am experiencing. Just an hour ago I made dinner, Fajitas, made them a million times before and would before this been a walk in the park before this thing started. Second I got two pans going and some stimulation I went from feeling light stimulated (constant) to total stimulation, a surge of adrenaline, my eyes are still huge an hour later, i've a headache, sweating and can't cool down. High on adrenaline, well I call it 'wired' as there is no happiness with it, usually adrenaline and restlessness.
