Need Specialist in TN

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am new here. I am searching for a specialist to possibly diagnose me with POTS. I looked on here and there are no specialists near me. All my doctors are in Chattanooga, TN. Nashville is the closest to me and that is just really too far for me to go. Should I be looking for a neurologist? I already went to a cardiologist and they looked at me like I was nuts. After diagnosing me with tachycardia and putting me on several heart medications at 31. For very high heart rate and blood pressure. They didn't care to find out the root of the problem. I already have an autoimmune disease and a couple other chronic diseases. I'm just trying to get pointed in the right direction. Any help would really be appreciated! Thank you!

What kind of cardiologist did you see? An electrophysiologist is the type that typically specializes in POTS, or you could try a neurologist that deals with autonomic disorders. If Nashville is too far, could you make it to Atlanta?  There may be more doctors there to work with.

Hey there! Thank you for responding. No he was just a regular Cardiologist. Thank you. I will definitely be in search for that kind. Atlanta is about the same distance for me.  We do have some good nuerologist in Chattanooga and I'm sure we have electrophysiologists. I just don't know who is good.

I know you say Nashville is too far, but it has some of the best Autonomic Disorders Specialists in the world. https://ww2.mc.vanderbilt.edu/adc/

Dr. Italo Biaggioni was my doctor there and gave me a diagnosis of POTS. Many of the research articles published are from this facility. As hard as it may be, it is likely worth your time and your health.

Also, Vanderbilt is just a one time visit to do testing and get a diagnosis. They give you a treatment plan from there for your regular doctor to implement. So you wouldn't have to travel to Nashville every time you need to see a doctor. I agree that a visit there would be very helpful, they are top notch specialists when it comes to diagnosing  autonomic disorders. I found it's helpful to have an official diagnosis from them so you have medical records to show other docs who are less familiar with autonomic issues.

I definitely agree.  If you can get to Nashville it would really be worth your while.  I went to Vanderbilt last year (we drove for 2 days, stopped for the night along the way).  It was well worth it but I had to wait months for an appointment so I used them as my second opinion (was very glad I did because I still can't find a local doctor).  Their research/testing and the large volume of patients they see make them experts in Dysautonomia.  It was nice to speak to a doctor who didn't look at me like I had two heads (because he's heard all my weird symptoms before).  If you really want to get the most out of it, you should gather up all your records and send everything over ahead of time.  Then follow up to see if there are other specialists you might be able to see.  I found the nurses there very helpful before my visit but I didn't need to see a bunch of specialists because I already had 3 days of cardiac testing at another facility a few months before I arrived.
