Feeling very frustrated and scared

Recommended Posts

Hey its me again. So I've been getting this weird symptom, and it seems like I'm the only person this happens to...

Each day, my pulse gets weaker and weaker (not the speed but the force against my fingers when I check it)

I have my dad and sis check my pulse on my wrist and neck all the time and claim it hasn't changed (my dad is a veteran and claims he learned how to measure pulses in the army). The lady at the clinic checked my pulse a few weeks ago and said it was "right as rain" I also went to the hospital the other night, and they checked my pulse, my blood, used an EKG and did that thing where they clutch the front of your throat and ask you to swallow. They said that I was "young and healthy".

Along with my weakening pulse, I'm still getting my fatigue, brain fog and breathing issues but I don't really get my heart jolts anymore. I've seen this doctor once before and also said I was fine then. Btw, my blood pressure is really high around 160-190 and my blood sugar gets really high too (also as high as 190)

Should I trust what she said? Im also still waiting on my appointment with my clinic. Thanks.

On the weak pulse, mine does that from time to time. It's a nervous habit for me to constantly check it and I'll notice right when I stand up that sometimes I can hardly feel it.

It's hard to believe the doctors and nurses when you feel like your body is failing you. I know it. And sometimes our mind is our worst enemy. Hang in there, deep breaths. Easier said than done but it does get better. I do know that much. :)

We're not supposed to give medical advice but i would assume if youve had multiple doctors say your pulse is alright that is probably is. Did they say anything about your bp? Anxiety maybe?

I cannot speak to your current state of health, but my acupuncturist has detected a weak pulse at times.  I have POTS and experience a lot of brain fog, fatigue, and sometimes chest tightness as well.  The chest tightness can be really unnerving.  It can be very frustrating having to wait so long to get a proper diagnosis and the find the right medications to treat it. I hope you are able to see a specialist soon to help you with this. I remember being very scared as well before I received my diagnosis.

With regards to your blood sugar, I do recall that you mentioned that you had transitioned to a vegetarian diet.  The only advice I have to offer is; try to eat whole foods and not too many refined carbohydrates (don't overload on the carbohydrates- eat plenty of vegetables -if well tolerated).  Starting a new diet often requires a lot of research.

I hope you get some answers soon.

I think that  is always a good idea to get multiple doctors opinions when dealing with health issues, especially if you are uncomfortable with what one doctor told you.

Now I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me that a weak pulse would be concerning if your blood pressure was low.  I would suggest checking your blood pressure when worried about pulse strength since pulse strength is subjective and not measurable. But of course you should verify that with a doctor as that is just my untrained opinion.

I'm surprised they didn't say anything about your blood pressure! Mine wasn't happy when it was 140 over something. Have you seen any specialists? Have they caught any symptoms happening while in the office visit? It's a long hard road for diagnosis, unfortunately. I almost passed out in the hospital lobby before they took me seriously!

Ive had my blood pressure at 155/105 and felt a little anxious but nothing too weird. Everyone is different. But still ask your doc about it. They'll tell you to check it at home since readings in doctors offices arent accurate due to stress

My pulse has gotten so weak that I have to press down so hard that it hurts to find it... What is wrong with these doctors? Are they just going to let me die? There is obviously something going on. What the **** am i supposed to do when every doctor tells me I'm fine and I keep getting worse? Am I just completely ******? I can't take this anymore. I've hit a complete dead end. Literally DEAD end.

No need to apologize. Many of us have probably been there. I know I have. If you stop checking your pulse, how do you feel? If you feel something that is that concerning, maybe take a trip to the er? If anything let them know you need help. There are ppl out there to help.

My cousin is an ER nurse, and she once told me that patients are either horses or unicorns.  A horse is a patient where the symptoms are easy to identify and a unicorn is a patient where the symptoms seemingly don't make sense.  Dysautonomia unfortunately often falls into the unicorn category where there aren't many doctors that are experienced with it and that understand it.  If you feel as though something is wrong, I would suggest that keep looking until you find a doc that you trust and can explain to you what is happening.  I went to 10 different doctors, and only 1 understood what was happening to me.

Well, they have a protocol that they go through which identifies the common emergency situations, but you should trust your instincts.

For what it's worth, I know exactly how you feel.  To know that your body is behaving differently and not knowing the reason is absolutely terrifying.  I thought I might have been dying too.  ER trips were a regularly occurrence for me until my doc and I figured it out - which took time.  An at home blood pressure machine or a trip to your grocery store to check your blood pressure could be a nice way to calm the nerves down if it shows that your blood pressure and heart rate is normal when you feel your pulse is too weak.  Please hang in there.

Since we cannot give medical advice here at DINET, we don't know and can't answer if you require an extended stay in the hospital.  I remember in your other topic that you were going to look into getting health insurance, have you had any luck with that?  I think you also mentioned having an appt at a clinic,  I'd think if you feel you should be checked into the hospital, you call the doctor you saw there. Most physicians have priveledges through certain hospitals, this way the Dr. Could  possibly have you admitted. If you don't have insurance, there are social workers and financial staff that will most likely arrange for you to receive assistance in paying your bill and help you obtain coverage.  Did your doctor suggest that you check your vitals so frequently throughout the day? I mention this because when I first got sick with POTS symptoms, I was checking my vitals all the time and I completely stressed myself out. My doctor told me I'd be better off checking them when I first wake up in the am, then once before bed - every other day - so that I didn't add to my anxiety. For me, it was a great suggestion as it helped me feel less overwhelmed and hopeless. Just a thought.

Haugr  -- I really like your cousins explanation of horses vs unicorns! Thanks for sharing :)

Haugr, my blood pressure is usually very high like around 160. Sometimes it gets high as 190.

The doctors never seem to bring it up. They didn't even give me my results the last time I got checked out. They just said I was "young and healthy". I feel like I'm 80 years old... I'm only 22... I feel like I'm being *********** because I don't have insurance. It's almost like its a conspiracy...

SarahA33,

I tried applying for Medicaid but got denied.

All they ever suggest is popping some brain pill and seeing a psychiatrist. This is ridiculous. I could be on the verge of cardiac arrest but I'm being labeled as a basket case, but screw me, right? Smh...

If you were on the verge if cardiac arrest the chances of them finding it are very high. Obviously we are not doctors but if you've seen multiple doctors telling you your pulse is ok then the chances of it being okay are also pretty high. I think you maybe could benefit from some anxiety medication. I know i do
