Chziime
By recommendation of my cardiologist, Dr. Tullo in NJ, I am trying to increase my salt intake. I got a salt supplement called Succeed S-Caps... they are supposed to mirror the electrolyte balance found in blood plasma. However, after I take it in the morning, I feel slightly irritable, have a minor headache, and generally feel dehydrated - even after trying half a capsule. For any of you who take salt/electrolyte supplements, how much water do you drink alongside each dose? It seems I may need more water than I can comfortably handle. PS- This is my first post! I was diagnosed with POTS yesterday without even needing a tilt table test... Dr. Tullo just measured my flat and upright pulse, and my symptoms match. It's something I've suspected for a almost a year, though.
angelloz
I have problems with migraines and too much salt sets this off for me so My intake is a delicate dance. I do better to eat foods and add more salt than with the supplements. The caps you are taking sound interesting though!
statesof
One of my doctors explained to me that some people have problems with the salt tabs, they mentioned stomach upset and things like that. I get a bad migraines as well and have found if I drink salt water with too much salt my body does sometimes react with head pain. I'm not sure how much salt to water you should be in taking but I typically I will add more salt to my food and then drink a glas or two of salt water a day and use enough salt where it can help, but I still tolerate it. My cardio suggested drinking a liter of water right when I wake up which seems like a lot, but I think it outlines that I should be drinking more water than what my typical diet pattern had in it prior to POTS. Lily
I see Tullo, too. I think he said 3 to 4 liters per daywith my salt. The salt alone will not help. You need the water, too.
yogini
You may have to experiment a bit. If the doctor told you to take this and it keeps giving you a headache, I would let him know. It's also not enough to drink the water just with your medicine. You will have to drink all day.
Kaitlyn
I tried salt tabs and they gave me an upset stomach (no headache, but I only took them once). What I do now is buy empty capsules (made by Herb Affair on Amazon) and fill them myself. You can buy different sizes. I bought size 1 which easily holds a gram of salt. I fill a bunch at a time (half with sea salt and half with iodized salt - on the recommendation of my EP). I am currently taking 3 of those per day in addition to tons and tons of salt on my food. The thing is it makes me really thirsty which forces the water, which is good! I am supposed to be getting, if I remember right (which I should ... brain fog!) at least 8 grams of salt per day. Oh and the capsules aren't very expensive. I think they were about $12 or $14 for a large bag that will last a long time. Good luck =)
